Dear friends,

i have completed my script, now i want to secure it. three way i got to know are:

1) WGA

2) US Govt. Copyright

3) Protect it!

I want to know that weather its possible to register at WGA sitting at india through online system, u know it saves time of sending and all. The problem is that in WGA website the Social security no. is wanted, and living in india i can;t arrange that. Is it possible to fill some other details there as there are option for other countries, i m just wondering what is the thing to fill up.

However, Protect It allows to do it without Social Security No., but then i have doubt that is it acceptable as well as WGA, because in every site the suggestions are for WGA.

Waiting for your kind replies dear.

For WGA/W it doesn't have to be a US SSN, just some form of identification (such as your driver's license number).

And yes, it allows someone overseas to register their work online.

All of the systems simply demonstrate that you had a copy of that script on that date. Whether this turns out to be useful or not is another question.

(The exception is the US Govt Copyright which (due to a legal trick that makes other countries cringe) also gives you the advantage of being able to get a minimum damages amount if you successfully sue someone for copyright violation in a US court)

Whether any are actually worth anything is up to you. If it makes you sleep better at night with less stress over your project, then it might be worth it.

But none of the options really 'secure it'. The only way to do that is to bury the script in your backyard and never tell anyone about it.

Good luck,

Mac

I registered with the WGA, I live overseas and I'm not a US citizen and therefore have no US social security number.
So it is possible. You probably don't have to fill in that space and write something else. I don't even remember being asked to provide a social security number.

it is okay to be Indian and register with WGA, but how are you making the online payment. I have more than 30 registrations and have not provided any SSN.

which debit card or credit card? I have HDFC debit card but I can't make online overseas payments as I have to get the US dollars from an authorized service. say HDFC bank themselves issue me a US dollar DD.

I live in Ireland and don't have a US SSN. I used the number of my passport to register with the WGA. Though I do have a credit card ofc. But it was a fairly straightforward process.
