Well friends, another month has rolled around. How are you? How's the book/short/whatever going? Are you ready for another month of 500 words a day?

I'm going to be mostly editing and plotting this month but of course I'll keep you posted. You do the same!

Oh, and you--yes, you in the corner. We see you lurking. We were you at one point. Come on in and join! We hardly ever bite.

Just a note: this is a supportive, non-competitive thread about writing and doing our best to get at least 500 words a day. If it's competition you're looking for, check out the March Challenge.

I'm still moving along on my revision. Currently working on Chapters 10 & 11 (out of around 33), with total word count on the revision at about 60,000. My unofficial goal for this month is to get through this revision so I can send it out to my beta readers.

:Sun: and :poke:, everyone!

::sigh:: Somehow I missed a couple pages of different threads, and kaitie's truly excellent suggestion for the name for this thread: Marveliferous (is that the correct spelling?). Sooooo much better than boring old March Madness. Sorry kaitie. You get dibs on next month's naming!

2571 words today. I knew I'd write after the great weekend of rest. I'm back! :)

This thread is called March Marveliferious in my heart. :)

TheIT, that's great that you want to churn it out to the betas already. Woot!

2049 words today! I dreaded writing this chapter but with the help of a wonderful beta- I saw what I was doing wrong- I have a bad habit of rushing through emotional chapters- he wouldn't let me- so I went back scrapped what I had and rewrote it- I almost made myself cry- I hate to cry- but sheesh- my poor bad guy- Jericho- just relived when his entire family was killed in a fire when he was ten- he lost everything he cared about - then as an adult his wife- his salvation-is killed in a car accident-
Things do not go well- (and Jude- poor Montana-)

:e2cry:

As for me, doing very well on my edits. I'm on page 215... it's going quickly so far. As I recall, there will be more work toward the end, but that's okay.

Just signed up this weekend and posted a short story that just flowed out of me in about an hour on saturday. I guess I could jump in here and try to get my novel kick started.

Welcome, Scoody! You've come to the right thread for slow & steady encouragement. What sort of novel are you writing? Good luck!

I just realized I got to 50 pages today! Of course, my WIP is double-spaced but it's only ten-point font. :D

Congrats, midnightstar13!! Now keep writing. :poke:

Remember, word count matters more than page count. Page count is much too fluid based on font and font size. I experimented with one of my drafts once and discovered that if I set the font right, I could turn it into over 700 pages or shrink it down to 200 pages. Of course, you'd need a microscope to read it at that point. :D

Welcome, Scoody! You've come to the right thread for slow & steady encouragement. What sort of novel are you writing? Good luck!

I am working on an outline right now. I do not even know if there is enough to the story I want to tell for a novel or just a long short story.

Though I have written a couple of short stories before, I have been kicking this one around for a while. It would be based on real events or rather a real event.

What gave me the idea for it was this. My father died almost three years ago. My father was a good upstanding man but when he was serving in the Korean War he came home to bury his father who had died.

Last year, I had a woman show up at my house who said that her father wanted to talk to me. Her father was a friend of my dad and the last surviving member of a poker game they had played for years until they all got old and started dying off. Her father had kept a secret for a long time. He was the last of ones who had had anything to do with that secret and he confessed to that there was a lot more to my grandfather's death than I ever knew (I never met him he died almost 10 years before my dad married my mom) and him and my father had avenged him. That old guy died a few days later after his confession.

I think this is a great story to tell (changing a few things of course) and writing about early 50's west Texas could be fun especially if I can get the ambience right.

2994 = final word count for the day. And I'm finished for the night. Ciao!

Welcome, Scoody. Cool story there. I love that it comes from a family connection. Wow. I'll be interested to see if you make it a novel or a long short story.

Oh my, Scoody, what a great story! Oh, and welcome,

Great writing all of you! Talk about March coming in like a lion!

Well, count me in on this. I should be up to getting back at it tomorrow. There is an upside to being on medical R&R for two weeks! Plus I can make my kids wait on me hand and foot. So I am determined in these two weeks to finish my WIP The MCMs

Oh ya, since it is March I will have a short story to do for the April Issue of Historical Wyoming, (Wyoming Co., NY)

I'm 2 1/2 pages shy myself. :D I'm writing single-spaced, but in a bigger than TNR font so it's fewer if I switch over, but still. :) If I get through the same amount today as I did yesterday I should manage to hit it.

Wow! Everyone is doing great. No words to report on the WIP though. Hope to get something done today. Finally getting the issues resolved at home. (Yep, she's moving out mid month.)

I did mess around with a short I've had running around in my head, and got a start on it. I just don't know if it's going to go anywhere. I have all the characters set, and the location, and the plot (more or less). Got about 300 words into it and stalled. *sigh* It's a murder mystery that takes place in a small Texas town, something I am more familiar with than the BIG APPLE. I'll mull it over some more and see where it goes.

But I need to get back to my WIP, I'm too close to the completing the 1st draft to drop it now. Just need to get a kick start.

Good luck everyone, and welcome Scoody!:welcome:

*Hugs* to Ken. Not really anything I can say to help that, but I'm sure we understand you not getting any words down today. Hope things get worked out soon, however they're working out.

Good wordage everyone.
