Hey, I was wondering if anyone knows the most tastful way to email an editor at an ezine and let them know they made a big mistake in the printing of my story.

I don't want to sound ungrateful, but at the same time, the whole last part of my story is gone.

Have any of you encountered this before?

Thanks for your help!!!

Melissa

There's no special way of dealing with it. Just be polite and to the point. Make sure you give them all the details about the story, including the part that was missing.

I've seen this happen a few times, and the publisher will probably be receiving letters from readers about it anyway. You might get it printed in full in a forthcoming issue, along with some sort of note about the misprinting. :)

Polenth is right...just be polite and let them know of the error. I once had an e-mag who accidentally put out someone else's story with my title. They corrected it quickly after I mentioned the issue.

Yeah, I've had it happen to me a few times too. They say editors are frequently overworked to distraction, and I suspect it's true.

Hi, Melissa, I once had a magazine mix my story and another writer's story, using the other writer's story's end with my beginning. Funny thing is, it kinda made sense anyway, so I let it go. I felt funny saying anything (I was just beginning then) and I had gotten paid, so I didn't want to rock the boat. :) Much good luck w. whatever you decide.

Thanks, Susie. I e-mailed the editor. Still haven't heard back though. I guess everyone goes through this at one time or another. Just goes to show you we're all human.
