I'm looking forward to this. Timothy Olyphant is underrated, and this is sort of an ideal remake. The original was a good concept that fell a bit flat and isn't terribly well known. This remake can set right what once went wrong. It can be the Sam Beckett of remakes.

Hey, I loved the original crazies!

Also, this new crazies fills me with suspicion and dread. Because if you have a movie about the Crazies, then you have to have the military in it, and in the trailers, I haven't seen...like...any sign of the military in trailers.

Also, they look like zombies. The original Crazies weren't zombies. They were just criminally insane.

The military are in the trailers. At least I think that's who's in the trucks when that guy goes walking forward with his hands up "I'm not sick!"

Yep. And I don't think the new crazies are zombies. The first guy it starts with appears to be walking into a little league game with a shotgun. Zombies don't use shotguns.... thankfully...

Definitely not zombies - they show one of them setting fire to a house with people inside. They're live people gone insane, which is much scarier that zombies IMO.

I mean, they look all weird and corpsified in the trailers.

The point in the original was, at the end of the day, its nearly impossible to tell the difference between someone who is infected and someone who is just going insane because the situation is bugfuck insane.

I just watched this. I liked it quite a bit. The crazies weren't zombies and the deputy wasn't Barney Fife. Good action, quite tense in a couple of spots, nothing extravagantly dumb happened and they squeezed a decent look out of a smallish budget.

I saw it this afternoon and found it a right passable way to accompany a glass of sangria. Jcomp, you're right, Tim Olyphant is underrated and some of the best things in this film were the natural reactions to standard horror film tropes. There were lots of "shit, shit, shit"s and "Ow!"s that made the characters believable.

It was not without its flaws, one of which was a shocking bit of bad dialogue. Our heroes are in a car, the only thing moving on a wide open road, when a gunship helicopter dives past overhead -

"Did he see us?"

"I don't know."

Lol!

And there's a scene I suspect was edited to death because the camera makes a big deal of a woman contemplating a drinking glass and a bottle of water, but nothing happens.

They do a good job of corralling the right amount of gore and the Stryker saw scene is nothing short of brilliant.

All in all, a decent horror flick.

Pretty much how I felt. Not something I'll be dying to buy on DVD, but solid. Had potential to be great but fell a bit short in some areas, almost like they didn't have faith in themselves to let the movie ride out. The ending bugged me as a typical (slight spoiler) "The End ... ???? Bum-Bum-BUMMMM!!" fashion. Slightly forgivable as it almost made sense, but I think it could have gone without saying or displaying...
