Sex scenes

I’m having difficulty writing a sex scene. The situation doesn’t call for anything too explicit, and I would like to write something as tasteful as possible.

I would like to avoid choreographing the scene, but I can’t get away with writing, “They have sex,” either.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Figure out the purpose for the sex scene and focus on that.

What does it reveal, what character growth or flaws are shown? Is it significant? What about it is significant? When you have the defining moment, you have the scene.

Also do your research. If you have a movie in mind that handled it in a similar manner, go find the script and figure out how they did it.
