My MC has gotten himself into a situation where he and an Israeli have to cooperate, or else....

He has just enough Hebrew to understand simple salutations such as Boker tov, and shalom, (along with how ask about the nearest bar). But that's about it.

Would Mah Shlomcha (How are you?) be used as a salutation between two men who aren't quite sure of each other's motives? If so, what would be the proper response?

Any other suggestions you'd care to impart would be useful.

Also, what is the correct pronunciation for Sharon, as in Ariel Sharon, the late Prime Minister?

Thanks,
Stan

My Israeli wife says yes. Just don't say it to a woman.

edit: To a woman is Mah Shlomech

You do not need to clear your throat while saying this. It's the same as in English.

Dr,
Thanks.

And what would be the response (in Hebrew) when someone says, Mah Shlomcha?

Thanks,
