Well, the waiting is over for this round. Mary Kole from Andrea Brown passed on my work.

Oh, well, it just wasn't my time. Back to the drawing board, as they say.

Thanks to all for the well wishes. Hope your journey is more productive.

Sorry to hear that, Sissy.:(

Which story was it? Something we've seen on SYW?

So sorry, Sissy. It does take a lot of plodding to find the right fit for your work, don't let this get you down.

thanks, everyone. I really appreciate the support.

The concensus seems to be my longer works aren't commercial enough for today's market. I guess when I figure that out I'll know which direction to take.

kd - the original piece I sent her was a rhyming pb called lavender - I have shared it somewhere around here, but it's been ages ago.

again, thanks, you all are so wonderful.

I'm sorry, Sissy. In my opinion, PBs are the hardest market to crack, so it's great you got a request to read.

I'm sorry to hear that, Sissy. I actually think your novels are your best form. But I think her comment about your work not being commercial enough is simply another way of describing "quiet books." I say phooey on that! While I'm sure Mary Kole is a competent agent (I know a fellow AWer who is one of her clients and speaks highly of her), she is still pretty new to the game. I raised the point last week in my rejection thread that I felt the agent, while really liking my book, may have been too new to have the necessary contacts to sell a quiet book. But they do get sold. Although I haven't read either, I understand both Love, Aubrey and The Underneath are on the quiet side. I actually picked up the latter yesterday and plan to read it once I finish my current selection.

But your work definitely has merit, and not just because I or anyone else on this board says so. Mary thought enough of it to contact you. Keep writing and submitting, and don't discount those veteran agents. The newer players may be hungrier, but the seasoned ones have the deep Rolodex.

ETA: Did I say "Rolodex?" Are those still even used? Damn, I'm getting old!

Yeah, and I know what a Rolodex is, so don't feel too bad.

Thanks so much for your kind words. I still think she's an awesome person, and love her blog because it is so helpful and informative. And I'm working on a couple of projects that are definitely not quiet, so when those are finished and edited about a thousand times, I'll be back.

BTW - I just finished Love, Aubrey, and thoroughly enjoyed it.

Sorry for the no, Sissy. It sounds like your writing is there, if that's any comfort... Keep writing and querying!

Dangit, sissy, so sorry to hear this. BUT, your next project might be your golden ticket and then you can revisit this one again.

Now, on to other matters...here's a cookie! :e2cookie:

That sucks. Keeping your head-up though. You just need to find the right home for it!

Hey, sorry to hear that. I like what hedgetrimmer said about the deep rolodex. That's very true. :)

I've got a quick question. What qualifies for a "quiet" pb?

:Hug2:Hi Sissy,
please don't let one "no" discourage you. We've all heard the stories from writers that submitted dozens and dozens of queries before finding the perfect fit for their work. THe fact that she took such an interest is a huge compliment. I would keep submitting if I were you.

Sorry to hear your news, Sissy. Have a little chocolate, and then keep at it! Not every book is right for every person - you just haven't found your agent yet. :)

Sorry to hear this Sissy. Keep on submitting, don't get disheartened, and keep writing. You'll get there in the end, sometimes it just takes a bit longer, but you will get there. :)
