Hey, this might sound like a dumb question but I have a vampire short story that I've been submitting that has a minor twist on the trope, but has been rejected because it doesn't do anything unique enough with the genre.

Changing it drastically to make it new would kind of ruin the point of the story and I'm happy with it as is minus polishing the prose, of course.

Are there markets that accept vampire stories without major twists on the trope?

Otherwise, I might have to put it to bed.

I posted a version in SYW ages ago. It's just going through some edits at the moment and I might post it up.

Was just asking to see if there's any hope for a vampire story that isn't a drastic twist on the genre because often submission guidelines for horror mags have something like this included, like with the magazine Midnight Echo.

All subjects within the genre of dark fiction will be considered, although stories that feature well-worn tropes (such as vampires, serial killers, evil children, etc) will need to present a new and innovative take on the concept.

Just make your vampire super mean, but with a soft spot for some.. Dont do Twilight and stay away from underworld type vamps.
