I have kind of a dumb question, but will a secular publisher publish a Christian book? I have the Christian Writers Market Guide which lists the Christian publishers. I have queried several, still awaiting responses from some. I'm just curious if I should also investigate other publishing houses or would I just be wasting my time? I have written a Bible study for parents of children with special needs.

There are no dumb questions. Well, except if anyone thinks the Buffalo Bills will ever be a decent football team again. :Headbang:

...where was I? Oh, right.

I don't know of any mainstream pub that'd look at a Bible study. IMO the Christian ones are your only bet. Good luck!

It wouldn't hurt to visit the secular pub's websites and read their guidelines, and see what they have published lately.

The trade publishers are open to "Inspirational" more than "Religious."

However, I think it has as much to do with who you are as what you're submitting. Clearly, Lilly's right in saying a Bible commentary or daily devotionals won't find a home with the mainline trade publishers...most of the big trade publishers have bought into the Christian market anyway.

However, look at some of what they have published: Anne Rice and Mitch Albom's books for example. Of course both of these people came armed with the dreaded P word - PLATFORM.

I'm confident Stephen King could easily publish "How I Discovered God while Writing Horror Novels." You or I, I'm not so sure about.
