So I'm sitting here going through my M.S. rewrites and struggling through the reductions of my favorite parts and the enhancement of less important story points when I find yet another post-it note stuck to my Red Ink soaked M.S.

It was a smiley face from my editor. And while I HATE some of the things that are happening to my story, I do love Smiley Faces and writing a legitimate book.

Ah, sweet bliss.

Back to work.

That's awesome. I hope one day I have an editor as cool as that. He/she probably knew you would need some de-stressing and a smile with all the work you are doing. :)

When I'm editing (granted, in a corporate environment) and things start to get heavy, I try to put in little jokes and plays on words to lighten things up. As a matter of fact, just last week, when the writer had accidentally ended a sentence with a colon instead of a period, I marked it, then wrote on a sticky, 'Personally, I'd rather keep my colon and get rid of my periods, but, well, you know.' She nearly died laughing instead of being mad at herself for such a mistake.
