A well-known writer this week. He's also a professor.

This may be the wrong forum for this, but I figured I'd get the most responses since it's always full.

Anyway, I have my manuscript typed in Times New Roman, 12-point, double-spaced with 1-inch margins all around.

What would you print yours in?

Sounds good to me. Make sure also the pages are numbered (should he accidentally drop it), and that your name and the title of the book is in a header on every page (the latter I suppose is more important for an agent who has tons of submissions, but it's still a good habit to get into).

It sounds fine, with a small caveat: If he's over 50, and since this doesn't have to conform to any particular guidelines, kicking it up to TNR 13 will make for easier reading. The difference in page count is fairly small, compare to the ease for older eyes.

Thanks, guys. It's printing now. It'll be done in, oh, about an hour. Printer sound is driving me insane already.

Oppps too late to suggest New Courier. The reason, each character is the same width left to right so the spacing is consistant. I also find New Courier easier to read than Roman, especially if you use italics...

If you're a person who likes New Courier, Dark Courier is even better. You get it online.

But I usually use Times New Roman, 12pt.

Good luck, Gary! Hopefully he can give you a lot of great advice.

Thanks, guys!

Another question: How do you take your manuscript in? Like, hole-punched and in a binder or what?

Trust me, the stapler is not an option.

Sounds good. So the person reading it will just read page by page, and then put the binder clip back once done reading?

Just seems scattered and whatnot, but then again, I've never done this before.

With a binder clip, the metal part can be lifted up without the clip coming undone. (You put it on the top left of the ms.)

All pages then stay together as the person reads it.

When mailing a ms., you can just rubber band it. The reader takes off the rubber band. That's why you must number pages with your last name. Like this: LAST NAME / p. *

.
