Ever dreamed your plot into focus?

Woke up at 3:30am last night from a dream where I was my MC in an incredible plot. It beats my old idea all to heck, yet preserves all the characters and plot threads i had working over the past 3 months. Couldn't sleep for an hour or more.

Today I'm all over it. Jeez, what a breakthrough.

Is this what some call unconscious providence? Have you had something similar happen?

Not to that extent, but I was stuck in a particular part. I didn't write for three weeks just waiting on a breakthrough to happen. Finally I dreamed the most wonderful scene, and immediately put it into words.

My characters and plots invade my dreams more than I like. Hell, I have even run scenaro's and dialogue while driving home from work and when I get home, I don't even remember stopping or making turns, and that is pretty scary...

I get a lot of my ideas from dreams and when I'm stuck, dreams usually get me out.

Yes, but only with the one i'm working with now. I had the both Jillian (my main character) and Grimace (a major character) and they were together. They had a goal, but I had no earthly idea how they would achieve that goal. Then one night I sat straight up in bed, an entire scene had just played out in my dream. It completely tied the story together.

Also, most of my WIP's start off as dreams. So yay for dreams!

I take lots of inspiration from my dreams. In fact, my current WIP is the only one which DIDN"T come from a dream.

I am my characters in my dreams, its rather scary but fun lol

My last story came from a dream. Well, most of it. I changed the last half or so because the ending in the dream really didn't make a lot of sense logically (you know how dreams are). I also changed up a few of the particularly crazy elements near the beginning, but for the most part the story itself followed the basic plot of the dream (one scene in particular was word for word from the dream).

I've gotten quite a few ideas from dreams, though I'm not sure I've ever dreamed an answer to something in the middle of working on it. Typically if I'm working on a story and actually manage to dream the characters they're doing something really off the wall, like trying to save a village from a volcano or something. :tongue

I had a dream this morning about my current WIP. It didn't solve any plot problems, and it wasn't how I came up with the idea in the first place, but it did show me that maybe, just maybe, my characters didn't suck, and were perhaps endearing. The dream also confirmed that the new direction of the plot which I came up with in the last couple of days, it confirmed that this was a good thing.

First time I've ever dreamed about my characters.

I usually have the most earth-shattering dreams... I solve cold fusion, I tell you! Until I get more awake and either can't remember a thing, or remember that bananas were crucial or something

The only ones that really were awesome are still quite specifc to my odd brain

If I could get the world stoned, I'd be OK...

I hardly ever dream about my writing, which makes me kind of sad. It would be neat if I did... Usually I have dreams like the one last night, where my house was connected to a creepy massive marble-filled mansion and the ghost butler started an electrical fire in my house because he knew I was going to try to burn down the mansion... Freud says: lay off the crack.

Edit: Oh, oh! But my favorite fanfic (<<yeah, yeah... I know) ever came from a dream. It was Harry Potter. I had a dream that Malfoy worked in a trashy petshop in London that was on the verge of being condemned...

A lot of my initial story concepts come from dreams, but it's pretty rare for me to have a dream that's remotely compatible with an existing story idea (of my own, I've had 'fanfiction' dreams inspired by movies several times).

My dreams aren't nearly as productive. Most are shattered, scattered little things that make no sense upon waking. And my characters just tend to keep me up rather than let me sleep. -eyes-

I think I'd prefer things if they worked out your way.
