I'm living in a shack with my characters.....
I know its possible, but you know with like Eragon and Chris Paolini his parents were in the company, so it was easy for him...but what about the others? What other books are big that were written by teens? (Besides Eragon and Swordbird)

Amelia Atwater Rhodes was 14 when her first book Demon In My View came out. She's pretty much published a book a year since (though she's no longer a teen NOW). They recently published two of her series in omnibus editions, and her new book comes out in February. I know at the time her first books were published, she was featured on the Rosie O'Donnel show, amongst other things.

Cheering you all on!
I believe Ally Carter was a teen (maybe still is) when she started The Gallagher Girls series.

Frankenstein by Mary Shelley. I think (but am not sure) that she was 19 when she wrote it.

Helen Oyeyemi was (I think) 18 when she wrote The Icarus Girl and either 19/20 when it was published.

Catherine Banner was 15 when she wrote The Eyes Of A King and I think around 18/19 when it was published.

Kit Downes was 19 when he wrote Zal and Zara and the Great Race of Azamed and about 20/21 when it was published.

She wasn't actually, and isn't now. She had other books out before she ever wrote the GG series.

Our own Blind Writer is teenage author Kody Keplinger, who sold her debut YA novel THE DUFF at auction and also sold film rights.

Flavia Bujor was in her early teens when her book Prophecy of the Stones (or something like that) was released. Isabel Kaplan wrote Hancock Park when she was 16 and got it published June of 2009 by HarperCollins (at the age of 19, I believe). She's also at Harvard, which is very impressive.

Jane Gaskell - wrote Strange Evil at age fourteen, published at sixteen. (China Miéville apparently rates it highly.)

Catherine Webb - same ages for writing and publication of Mirror Dreams.

Both have gone to have careers as novelists as adults.

S.E. Hinton was 17 when The Outsiders was published. (ETA: AryaT92 has already mentioned this novel.)

Peter S. Beagle was 19 when he wrote A Fine and Private Place. A masterpiece.

He was nineteen when he wrote it? Damn. It's an incredibly beautiful book.

my first book came out when i was 18, and the next one will come out either right before or right after I turn 20, I don't have a date yet. And the third will be when I'm 21. Unless another one butts its way in there, we'll see.

Are you going to give us a little hint about your next book, or will you let us salivate? :D

haha! there hints all over the place. it's called INVINCIBLE SUMMER, and it's a family saga over four years of summers. the main character goes from 14 the first summer to 17 the last. you don't see what happens during the year, only what happens over the summers.
