An agent has requested a full of my manuscript. I've never gotten this far before, so I'm not sure what to send. Do I just send the manuscript? Or should I include a brief letter stating something to the effect of 'here is the complete manuscript, thanks.'

Also is it normal to send the manuscript via email? On the website he states "General submissions should be sent via email." and it would certainly be easier to go that route than printing up a 420 page document and mailing it, but I don't want to risk instant rejection by just emailing him the novel.

E-mail the agent back saying you are happy to send him your full manuscript and ask him how he wants to receive it and in what format.

You include a cover letter, a copy of the query letter and his response (If this is email, you reply to his response for your cover letter. His response will probably contain your query.), and mark either the outside of the box or the subject line with an email with "REQUESTED MATERIAL."

Ask whether he/she prefers email or snail mail.

Best of luck,

Catch me if you can!
I was going to suggest what Jim did.... and also say make sure you put all of your contact information in there, should they feel the desire to extend an offer of representation ;)

GOOD LUCK!!!

I just attach the manuscript as "Requested Materials" and put in the body of the email.

Enjoy.

When you don't know something, it's always best to ask the only person who can give you a definative answers. In this case, ask the agent. It's always better to ask and get it right, rather than finding a reason not to ask and risk getting it wrong.

Send only the manuscript with an email that says "as you requested, here's the ms" or words to that effect. If the agent wants something else, they'll ask.
