I used to write for them. Watch out: they want a LOT of work in a very short amount of time, and will only pay $8 an hour for it. Their pages require a lot of wiki coding and research, and there are doubts that they can pull in the revenue they need since their pages never rank too well in Google.

I got fired from that place and never looked back.

I wrote something for they last year... but, the are lightly... still waiting for them to pay 400$(money for one week of writing)

I saw a listing for them on Craigslist and checked out the site. I didn’t care for it and what I could find about pay it seems they pay $0.75 per article but you can’t collect until you have $150. In the ad, they claim to be the best of “eHow (more lucrative rev share) and Wikipedia (that pays).” I have a lot of stuff at eHow through DS and think I’ll stick with them. I wasn’t impressed and if I make $5 I want my money, I’m not writing and not getting paid until I make $150, it’s great when I do but I like to be able to access my money no matter how much. They can’t touch DS’s pay schedule, you have to have $150 in your account, then request payment which will then be paid on the 15th of the following month, I think that’s what it said. Um, yeah, DS pays bi-weekly and when they paid weekly, it was still wonderful. I am paid no matter how little I make and I don’t have to request my money.

That’s my take on it at least.

I've been writing on Mahalo for about a month and I am enjoying it. They do expect good work for their "task" or "how to pages" but they pay a little up front and ad revenue residuals.
You have to learn how to use their Wiki language to build pages but they use video and links to build their pages. which makes them interesting at least to me.

Their ultimate goal is to become a one stop source for information. They have gained good page rank and are still gaining more with around 8 million unique visitors every month.

They have a strange thing where everything is quoted in Mahalo dollars which are 75% of real money and the payout is 150.00 mahalo dollars.

The one thing I like over there is the transparency. If there is an issue they deal with it. And everybody knows what everybody makes or has made from their leader board. So there is none of that I done this or done that since it's there for all to see. I use the same name over there so you can see what I've made if you want.

I left the site the first time I went over there myself. But now I'm there to stay.

Ah...wait a minute. I should specify that they have two different divisions: a contractor/telecommute/hourly end, and the rev share end. I worked for the first. You can find ads for that on freelancewritinggigs.com and CL, sometimes.

Scigars, you're not the only one who has complained about Mahalo skipping out on pay.

There have been a couple of reports of people not getting paid. However, it looks like Mahalo has switched its business model, so maybe a lot of these problems have been resolved.

Jacktide, are you getting paid? I just started and usually avoid content sites... but I don't mind the work if the money comes. It says you have $2.42... have you cashed out?

Sorry for being so nosy. Before I divert my attention from paying work I want to know if it's worthwhile.

That's 2.41 is just the residual for the first month. They also pay for completion of task. My total for the first month was 106.00 Mahalo dollars which converts to 75% real money which is 79.50. The pay out comes at 150.00 Mahalo dollars. I should make that no problem before the end of this month. They publish their payout list for every month. As I said their transparency is different compared to other online sites. You can see what everybody makes everyday on their leader board and how much they have made from tasks and which pages earn more.

It appears they had some bad feelings when they went from in house staff to freelance and fired a bunch of employees which might explain their openness.

They have a great concept, if they can pull it off, who knows.

I'll never get rich over there since I write too slow, but I'm having fun and I can write about what interest me. I like building pages as they call them with video, links, and inlinks.

Geez! AC seems like a better deal! The upfront offers are more than $0.75 cents most of the time. AC pays for page view too.

Don't trust Mahalo. I started writing topic pages and how to articles last summer. And then recently they started revoking pages, but weren't following their own Terms of Service that states the process for page revocation. They even took away one of my pages because a video description didn't have enough words in it, even though that requirement is not on their page management guide. And when I made a public complaint on Mahalo Answers, they closed my account and now refuse to pay me -- they owe me about $500.
