I am using Microsoft word 2003, and while I know how to number the pages, I am struggling to find a way to add the information to the numbers that is needed for my manuscript. I basically want to list my last name, the title of the novel, and the page number on the bottom of every page. I can manage the page number, but getting the other two info bits there is providing a challenge.

You want to use a header or footer. Go to View > Header and Footer. The Header and Footer menu should pop up. You can also use the text formatting tools on the main menus (for example, to align to the right side of the page). There is a tool for Page Number right on the Header menu (your "tool tips" should show you which tool it is). If you need more detailed instructions, let us know and we'll step you through it. Once you go through this, it will be a snap the next time.

Most of the time such information goes at the top of the page rather than the bottom (at least in the US, I'm less familiar with the proper format in other countries).

If you have a title page, you will probably also want to select Different First Page on the Page Setup menu. That way your footer or header won't show up on the title page.

Hi!!
I have one more question regarding paging.
I want to make Index page and the page number opposite to it.
Is there any shortcut regarding making the Index page rather then doing it manually.

Yes; there's a feature that allows you to generate an index automatically -- but it still takes a little work.

For any word or phrase that you want in the index, select the word (or phrase) and go to Insert/Reference/Index and Tables. Click on "Mark". Do that for everything you want in the index.

Then, when you're at (I suppose) the end of your document and want to create the index, go to Insert/Reference/Index and Tables and just click "OK".

You can adjust the formatting in several ways, but that's the basic process. (I would usually click on "Right align page numbers".)

(Glad you're using Word 2003; if it were Word 2007, I'd be clueless.)
