Hi,

I would like to request a beta reader for my novel, "Deceit of the Eyes". This novel is geared more towards teens/young adults, so I'd prefer if my beta was from that age category, but they do not have to be. Also, I'd prefer a beta who has some experience writing novels.

Here is the summary of my novel:

Camille Hayden dreamed of being a detective ever since she was just eleven years old. Now, seventeen years later, she gets the chance to fulfill that dream, but it isn't going to be as easy as she had hoped.

There's a serial killer running around the northeastern United States, and what's puzzling this team of Crime Scene Investigators in Philadelphia is how difficult they are to profile. The Ghost Killer is a mastermind, because every time the team finds a new victim, everything about them seems to disappear from every computer system in the US government. And what's worse: This killer's main goal seems to be nothing less than to erase Camille Hayden - as well as the rest of the team.

My novel is about 62k words long. I've gone through a good bit of editing so far, but it isn't quite perfect (and I'm a perfectionist). What I'm looking for is some feedback, and tips on how I can improve it as far as the plot and grammar go. I can take criticism, but preferably constructive.

It sounds like an interesting story (I don't remember anything with this plot), although I can see where you might have a problem with a couple of "plot logic" elements if you're not careful.

I'm not a teen, but I do write mysteries. I'd be willing to take a look at the first three chapters (the first 8-10,000 words) if that would help. I don't think I have time to read and critique an entire novel. Just let me know if you're interested.

Thanks. The easiest way to do this would be to email them to you. Could you PM me your email address?

I'm willing to look at the first chapter and let you know if I want to see more. PM me and I can give you contact info. I write crime, although I am not a young adult. My first novel is coming out in December.

I'm curious as to the YA aspect. Is there a lot about when she is 11 and through her teen years? Or is most of the story set when she is 28? My daughter is 14 and she reads. I'll have her read the synop you posted, see if she'll be interested.

I'm sorry I haven't been checking up on this thread lately...

HistorySleuth: Most of the story occurs while she is 28, however, she does mention several important aspects of her past, and there are some flashbacks as well...

Due to my complete rewrite, I'm going to stop accepting new readers. Those of you that have already posted I'll accept, but it may take a while before I can give you my WIP.
