Reality Show - submitting ideas

I have been looking all over this site and couldn't find an answer to my question about reality shows. They are appearing fast and furious and I want to get on the bandwagon. I am usure where to start, but do have one thought that approaching FOX/Discovery Channel directly etc. may not get me far.

Finding an agent. First off, I would prefer to submit the idea. Is that how it's done? Submission via online?

No idea how this works. My guess is that having a foot in the door in TV production is critical. You might try going after an internship of some sort, to get a look at the industry and make contacts?
