Agent Response!

I've gotten my first request from an agent to see my full ms!

While I know it's still a super long shot, I am ecstatic and don't want to screw it up. I know generally I should put my story in the body of the email, is that the same format I should use when they've requested the story? This is my first time around the block and paranoia is strong. Do I send a little message; ie: thanks for your interest? Any help you can give would be appreciated. Thanks!

Congrats! I send my requests as an attachment and no change in the subject line, but if you're a picture book author it might be easier to just paste it into the body. Good luck!

Yellow, I don't write for kids, but generally you attach the MS in whatever format they prefer (most like .doc) and add 'Requested Materials' in the subject line of your email.

It's also usually a good idea to "reply" with the requested matierial (just change the title in the header) so that the e-mail chain is in tact and they can easily see that it really is something they requested.

As the other posters have said, do not post the manuscript in the body of an email. Send it as an attachment, unless the agent asked specifically asked you to send it by post (I had one of those, what a pain). Agents distrust attachments they haven't asked for.

You can keep your email brief ("dear agent, greeting, attached is the material you requested, thanks for your interest, sign off,") and then include the original query below, for reference.

Congrats, did they not specify if they want it in the body of the email or as an attachment?

I would personally do both to be safe, some agents do not open attachments even if solicited.
