[Link removed by Macallister, who is actually really, really grumpy about Mary Cole requiring writers to spam places as part of their blog entry. How would she like it if I sent a bunch of writers out to spam her comments threads?

Additionally, she has people posting html-linked comments on a board that doesn't actually accept html.

I've commented at her site, protesting this. But I'm not inclined to reward this outrageous contest requirement by providing either traffic or Google-juice from here.]

Too bad it's not another query letter contest; I really liked that one. However, I think it's great she's doing another contest so soon.

Thanks for the link!

Helen, you are the third person to post this here, but our lovely moderator Wyntermoon keeps moving it to "Announcements." Poor hardworking Wynter... :) We don't make things easy.

One of the requirements to enter is that you post a link to the contest in two places---I'm willing to bet a lot more posts will show up, unless people get more creative about linking.

Update: Mary's requirements now say to skip AW and the Verla Kay forums, since links have already been added there.

CONTEST THREAD - POST ALL LINKS TO CONTESTS HERE

I love a good contest so if you find a pip, trot it on out and share with the class! All contest links will be moved here if new threads are started on the KidLit forum.

Please list the link plus pertinent information if you have it: cost, deadline, etc.

I think a contest thread is a good idea, you guys. This could be a lot of fun.

In the meantime, I'm actually pretty mad that people are being required to go and spam sites with links to Mary Kole's contest. I've commented on her blog, explaining why it's a problem.

And we're not going to reward that with traffic, so I'm removing links.

Great idea, wyntermoon! This way, the contests' details won't get lost in the mass of other threads (since, often, the deadlines are months from now!). It's also great having one organized place for all the contests. Brilliant. :D

And also, we won't get clogged with all the duplicate posts (which are rude, in my opinion. If a person comes here and sees there's already a post on the exact same topic, they shouldn't post another! Sheesh.). There are lots of interesting threads going on in the Writing for Kids section right now; it'd be a shame for people to miss them because there's a dozen duplicate threads taking up page space.

I did wonder about that "you must post a link on two other sites" rule. I mean, even if you have your own blog, that's only one...

Contest to help me come up with a tagline for my book!

Hey everyone, thought I'd get as many interested writers involved in this as I can. Snoop and I are hosting a contest to help generate potential taglines for the paperback version of my book that's coming out with Penguin.

In exchange for your tagline-savvy, we are happy to offer up some free-tiques. Or course, you will also have the glory of having your tagline published on the cover of my book if the publisher likes it. Woohoo!

Have some fun with the brainstorming! Details are posted here.

British author, Harriet Goodwin (author of The Boy Who Fell Down Exit 43) is hosting a competition on her website here.

To enter you have to answer the following question:

If you could wake up in the Underworld as one of my ghosts, which one would it be and why?

The competition is open to all (regardless of nationality and age) and first prize is:

- the chance to have a character in Harriet's next book, The Extraordinary Legacy of Elvira Phoenix, named after you;

- £100 in book vouchers (to be shared between the winner and their school, if applicable).

Further details, terms and conditions are available on Harriet's website.

4th annual Cheerios New Author Contest

Last year's winners are now posted (all 3 are rhyming), and there's an announcement for the 4th annual Cheerios New Author Contest (supposedly start accepting entries 3/15/10, till 7/15/10), but the fine print/submission form isn't online yet. Last year's winning book is now out in some Cheerios boxes. Kinda cool...

This had me all excited until I read the fine print that said it was only a contest being held within the USA...

I'm hosting a contest for Chris Brodien Jones to giveaway some swag and an ARC of her new YA novel, "The Owl Keeper." Entries start today and run for a week. Her book sounds very exciting, so I hope some of you will check it out!

*koff* Just wanted to remind folks that posts to promote a blog that are in fact entries to said blog's contest(s) is SPAM and Not Appreciated. And don't get me started on the ethics of posting without full disclosure. I have collected these from around the board, and will summarily delete any others.

Christmas Giveaway - Signed copy of ROCK STAR SANTA

I can't believe December is here already. And with it comes the 100th posting of my blog. So to celebrate I'm giving away a signed copy of ROCK STAR SANTA.

I know some of you have contacted me about getting a copy. Here's your chance to win one. It's great for a stocking stuffer or grab bag gift.

Just go to http://thestorytellersscroll.blogspot.com for details.

And if you don't win and you want to purchase a copy, just PM me for instructions on how to work your way into Scholastic's Teacher and Library Division. That's where it is available this year.

Merry "ROCKIN" Christmas!

I'm just wondering Zixi.....Why have you had several posts deleted in this same thread already?
