Elmore Leonard? Not a name I'm familiar with... But welcome to AW!!

Since Elmore Leonard writes crime novels and western shorts, I presume you're looking for more 'hard-hitting' romances. Would that be right? If so, look for "romantic suspense" novelists. You might enjoy:

Brenda Novak
Jordan Dane
Shannon Butcher
Colleen Thompson
J.D. Robb

I think traditional western romances would be a little too 'soft' for your tastes, but I could be wrong. If you've already tried the ones I mention here and DON'T like them, tell us what's missing from those that you're not finding and we'll try to steer you in a direction you'll enjoy.

Dee Henderson is a very good romantic suspense author in my opinion.

Maybe you could toss out a few more names. Folks might be able to come up with one of those,
'If you like SoandSo you might like Thisguy.'

Dee Henderson is indeed the Queen, but she hasn't written anything new in what, 4-5 years. It grieves me, but she must be having Life Intrusions.

You might like the Steeple Hill LI Suspense books. I particularly recommend Kathryn Springer, who writes a very well crafted rom suspense. Outside of that line I've liked Kathy Herman and Kristin Heitzman.

If you want a deeply felt story in the romantic/family saga line, pick up almost anything by Lisa Wingate. Her prose is very powerful and moving, and the romances absolutely ring true.
