What are the weirdest films you have seen?

Recently, I saw Breakfast of Champions and it made me think about how odd films can be and how weird they can be to different people and while we evolve, some of that weirdness become usual to us. So, I ask you, which do you consider the oddest films you have seen?

Some of the ones I can think off are El Topo, Eraserhead, Forbidden Zone, I love Huckabees, Brazil and of course Zardoz. They don't look anything as each other, yet, most of them occupy a special place in my heart.

I would have to say Angel Heart starring Mickey Rourke, Robert DeNiro and Lisa Bonet.

It is bizarre and horrifying and fascinating.

Okay, I've probably seen other movies that were weirder, but did I watch them the whole way through? Did I watch the commentary tracks (all of them) trying to make some sense of the movie--and still not succeed.

I don't think so.

Then yes, it's really, really bad. Zardoz is the perfect horror film, one spends the whole film terrified wondering if one is going to see little Seany.

That was definitely a weird one. Admittedly, I liked it. But then...I'm weird.

Other weird films...Female Perversions (which wasn't just weird, it was laaaaaaaame), Brazil, Damage, Crash (the Cronenberg version about the eroticism of car crashes). Oh, and The United States of Leland. That one was...weeeeeeird.

I haven't seen it yet, but I understand Mr Nobody is quite the headf*ck. I so can't wait to see that one (and no, it's not just because Jared Leto is in it).

Back in college, I saw Flesh Gordon. Our theater was a converted Quonset affectionately known as the Tin Can. We were also treated to Repo Man and Maximum Overdrive.

Wow, no kidding? All respect--different strokes, etc.--but I loved that movie. The buildup was sort of long, but that last recording hit me like a freight train.

Max, if you've got an appetite for this sort of thing you might also want to check out Naked Lunch. It's another David Cronenberg, based very loosely (I'm told) on the writings of William S. Burroughs together with (I'm told) the life of Burroughs. I don't know much about Burroughs but I'm a big Cronenberg fan. Even by his standards this is some weird shit.

The story centers around a journalist addicted to "bug powder" (heroin? I think?) who may or may not be a secret agent and his talking typewriter that is also a large cockroach.

Honestly, anything Cronenberg did before A History of Violence probably qualifies. Slightly more accessible but still deeply weird are eXistenz and Videodrome. I like his early stuff as well. Cronenberg started out trying to be a semi commercial horror director, but it seems like even then he couldn't help himself. Rabid was a little off and The Brood was just deeply and quietly nuts.

Oh God, how could I forget about eXistenz?? I love that film. I love almost anything Cronenberg, but Crash and eXistenz are definitely my favorites.
