Welcome to Hypothetically Speaking.
Some of you (those that know me from other sites) are familiar with this, some are not. For those unfamiliar with the process: Just place yourself in the position of the subject of the hypothetical and answer appropriately.
Simple, eh?
Here we go:
Your family, for untold centuries, has the duty of making sure people die on time and sending them on their way. Even though you grew up knowing all about this, it frankly disgusts you, so when you come of the age where you're supposed to begin, you refuse to take any part in the process. In fact, you leave home permanently with the intention of never having any contact with your family again.
There are two problems, however:
1. There's an old family legend involving a child being born under the circumstances under which you were born (it's the order of birth and your birthday) that claims this child, in adulthood, will create another child, who will be some sort of god of the dead or something you don't quite understand. Your romantic inclinations don't lend themselves to parenthood, if you get my drift, so as far as you're concerned, the legend is bologna. Your siblings believe it nearly religiously, though.
2. You know when - and in most cases how - everyone you meet will die. There's nothing you can do about that. The sole exceptions to this are you and your family.
So, how do you handle this?
