It was a toss up for the thread title so I flipped a coin and jazzy won. The other option was a word I found in the dictionary that I didn't know and thought I'd share:

jen (zhun, run) n. (in Chinese philosophy) a compassionate love for humanity or for the world as a whole.

Sometimes I feel that way (except while driving in Boston).

The nonfiction I'm working on took a backseat to the holidays, but I'm starting draft two this week. Plus you folks (and my recent interview with Evan Marshall) have me wanting to get back to fiction. I just get that uncomfortable feeling in my tummy when I'm trying to figure out how to do it all. Maybe I should finish one thing at a time...

How is everyone doing this year?

No words today, because too much football to be watched, but I'm stating for a fact here that I'm throwing my hat in the "most words in the month" game with kaitie, jude, Ken and whoever else is in it...

Three words for you guys: Bring. It. On.

I'll start...tomorrow. Like ToddWBush said, there's too much football on today. :D

And I don't have any ideas in mind right now.

No words today. While Todd can blame it on football, my excuse is too much to drink. My next door neighbor has a party every year and I swore I wasn't going this time. But like a dummy, I had to go over and at least wish them a Happy New Year around 11, after the ball dropped in NYC. Before I knew it I had downed 6 more rum and cokes and four shots of tequila! :e2drunk: Finally got to bed, (passed out), just after 1.:e2thud:

Hope to get back on the WIP tomorrow. Todd, it's on. :e2BIC:

Good Word, I love Jazzy and jen. Use jen for June!

1219 today, all before football. After football, there was too much dancing and excitement. :)

One tequila, two tequila, three tequila... floor!!

I forgot it was January, thansk to Hettie for reminding me :)

Todd, I would SO love to kick your butt with my word count this month, but I am on the editing straight and narrow, and so will probably end up with a negative word count (boo, hiss, exit pursued by bear).

But anyway, I will hang around here and bore you with my miniscule word counts if they do occur. Oh, and try and encourage the creative flow in others, if not myself. And make private wagers with others M/T/S-ers about who's going to win this month ;)

Darn it, and here I was hoping to get to play video games today. ;) Ah, what the hey. I can do both!

Anyway Todd, it's not a most words a month contest, it's a race to the finish. I'm gonna get my butt kicked. :D I'm starting from a what...30k deficit? ;)

*makes note of "jen" for the next Scrabble game*

Nothing today, but I thought about it. (Yes, yes, I know.) I plead holiday madness and passing insomnia. Hopefully there'll be something tomorrow... right now I'm going to see what I can get out before I fall over.

Hope you all had an excellent New Year's Eve and 2010's treating you well so far. Myself, I'm just glad I haven't misdated a cheque yet. ;)

ETA: 234 words, and I think it's time to fall over. :)

Love and coffee,
Frances

Um, let's not take this too lightly. Some of our pretty little behinds are riding on this bet... :D

Kaitie, for the record, I'm at 19,281 as of right now. Mark has been MIA--hopefully not writing. So you only have about 20K to go... And Todd hasn't gotten much done yet, right, Todd?

All right, the holiday festivities are over. Football is over (for us college footballers anyway). Nose to the grindstone, people...

(And did Hettie ever find her way out of December?)

Haha, kk. Twenty thousand...I can do that. ;)

I didn't write anything today, but I did sort out something pretty darn major (well two somethings) for my ending scene, which makes me happy. I'm actually still working out the details of the plot on this one, so it'll probably take me a few days to really settle into it. Hey, anyone want to help me think of a good name for my superhero league? Maybe I'll ask about that in the brainstorming area, which for the life of me I can't think of what it's called right now.

Zen-Jen-June? Sounds a bit like one of Ken's bikes starting up... :tongue

For the record, I don't ride a "rice burner". Harley's are more like this:

http://www.dlhill.com/HarleySounds.html Click on hd_2.wav. That's the closest I could find to the way my bike sounds.

Have some errands to run today, but hope to get some writing done later. My brain is still too foggy to think straight this morning. That, and my MC has managed to piss off a major player in the drug world and now has a contract out on her life. And if that weren't enough, she's about to piss off the Feds too! I tried to warn her, told her to drop it, but she refuses to listen to me. If she doesn't watch her step, she's either going to end up in prison or dead. (And neither option would be good for the book, much less the sequel.)

Better believe it...

Mark has been MIA--hopefully not writing.

I've been without internet since Thursday! How I detest that, cos now I have to spend an hour reading all the gossip you folks have been putting up here. :)

But, I did manage to write a little. Up to 25k, and I'll update my ticker after today's hundred or so words.

Okay, Todd, it's ON!

876 on the WIP today. Hope to get more later, have to figure out where this thing is going. Just had a moderate plot twist and Kelli is still reeling. (She almost took out a bagel shop employee for telling her to watch her language.) :guns:

Chapter 12 first draft is finished and I'm on to chapter 13. (My lucky number. Yeah right.)

Good luck to everyone. kaitie, no video games.

Mark, good work. Still have some catching up to do. (505 short of 30K here. :tongue)

I think my hat got "unofficially" tossed into the ring by Todd in an earlier post. So, yes, I'm in and the game is afoot.

but I'm stating for a fact here that I'm throwing my hat in the "most words in the month" game with kaitie, jude, Ken and whoever else is in it...

No more words tonight. Got too wrapped up in reading. Picked up Digital Fortress by Dan Brown. Pretty good so far.

So that's all it would have taken? Just randomly declaring you a participant? Dude, why didn't we think of that? ;)

607 words this afternoon.

I'm freakin exhausted now, for some reason. I think I'm out of the writing habit after the Christmas break... poor me :e2violin::e2violin::e2violin:

Going to try and write some more this evening, we'll see.

So, yesterday we decided to hire a horror from the video store. We never watch horrors and had to get our friendly store guy to help us find one, lol.
In the end we rented Ghost Ship - anyone seen it? It was pretty average really, and not that scary (although it must have been a little bit scary - I did insist on hubby standing in the bathroom while i brushed my teeth before going to bed!!)

Ohhhh, yes. Pretty average, although I do love the flashback sequence which explains what happens to everyone on board. It's rather beautiful. (It's here, for anyone who might be interested. There is violence and blood.)

Nothing yesterday again. I think I'd get left in the dust on the challenge--something about being just over three thousand words on a short story that feels about half done--but I suppose total output can count, right...?

Love and coffee,
Frances

Another 501 this evening. If my high school maths still serves, that's 1108 in total.

Yep, the flashback scene was cool in Ghost Ship - in fact I really like all the scenes they showed from the 1960s part. I just loved the glamour of the ball gowns and the crisp white uniforms, I think :)

Alright, not a lot today, but 556 for today. Not too bad, though. Hit 500 at least. :) Should get a lot more done tomorrow. One would hope anyway.

998 yesterday. I think Todd and Ken might be in their own words-in-a-month-race. I hope. :)

Way to go steam, kaitie and heyjude. I guess I'd better get cracking today.

So Todd, is this just between us or are we taking on the others too?

I think we should take on the others, makes it more interesting. Hey Mark, got your paddle ready? :D

I think there needs to be a clarification of rules and/or punishments here.

Who gets to paddle whom? For example, Ken, do you really want Todd or Mark wielding the paddle against you should you lose? :D
