Childrens picture book submission guidelines

Try the Children's Writers and Illustrators Market (CWIM), which is available in most bookstores or at Amazon.com.

If memory serves, the 2006 edition will be available sometime in August; since it's updated yearly, it would be a good idea to wait for the new edition.

There's a book by Olga Litowinsky called It's a Bunny-Eat-Bunny World which is mostly about the children's book publishing industry, but has an excellent section on writing and submitting picture books.

A very few first time authors of PB's are able to get an agent. Agents usually take on someone with at least one PB under their belt that's been pubbed by a traditional publisher.

Your best bet is to look for a book publisher first. As Kimjo said, CWIM is the best place to start, or go to a book store or library and find a book that lists the latest children's publishers. Usually you can cross-reference their guidelines online.

And always remember: You shouldn't pay them to publish your work, they pay you. That's a traditional publisher.
