Just finished having a memorial for a butterfly my oldest brought home in his backpack a few weeks ago. :(

And now Iím waving a string cheese under the nose of my youngest, trying to get him to wake up from an accidental nap that started at 6:00pm. Heís NEVER going to sleep tonight.

I never tried that approach, but I remember what that was like. You think you'll get through the day without a nap, and then, BAM! - stealth nap. And then you're kid's up half the night.

Trying to find something new to read...it's always so hard. >_< I'm not really sure what I want, either. Something melancholic or science fiction-y or supernatural...or any combination of the three.

I've been a bit melancholic after doing some prints for a customer a few days ago. They were 9/11 pictures he and his coworkers had taken. Images not seen by anyone else before. It reminds me of a book I had wanted to read awhile back that involved ghosts and the towers, but I can't remember the title. I think it was YA.

ETA: I remember what it is. Everlost.

My little guy (2) isn't allowed to go into the room we're doing construction in by himself--only if my husband is with him.

While making coffee a few mornings ago, I heard some clanking around in there and caught him.

"What are you doing in here!?" I said.

He replied by bursting into tears and saying, "I was worrrrrrking!!!"

Nice try...

I just might try using that next time I caught somewhere I'm not supposed to be :roll:

Scratching my head.

I pulled apart my dishwasher because the bottom arm had stopped spinning. I cleaned all the pieces, put it back together, and it's working perfectly now. But I've got four tiny pieces leftover. They don't fit anywhere. They were just sitting in the pan. And they're exactly the same color as the interior of the dishwasher. I'm looking at the parts sheet and schematic and there's nothing that resembles them on there. Weird!

Is the three year old ready? I started sending the oldest to a one day a week preschool when she was two going on three. I figured it would be good for her to get in a group of kids and learn how to interact with them. She enjoyed it.

He's ready. I'm not. :cry: I know he would love it, but once he starts, he'll be in school for years, and I still want to keep him with me while he's young, you know? I don't want to miss anything... Mommy is definitely having separation anxiety. :) I'm leaning toward starting him at four instead.

I see. :) One day a week wasn't bad and this particular preschool at this age focuses on social skills and group play over hard core schooling, so it wasn't like she was starting real school and she had a great time.

I understand wanting to be close. I miss my kids horribly since I spend so much time away from them.

I just saw ECLIPSE with my daugher, and I LIKED it! Good action scenes. Good kissing scenes. So much better than the other two (although I LOVED the kissing scene in the first one).

Trying to fix my sleep schedule. I have been going to bed at 9 or 10 am and waking up at 4 or 5. So, I just didn't go to bed last night and stayed up for almost 48 hours. Hopefully it works.

Feeling like and idgit. I sat on my trauma shears last night and cut my butt. I'm having muscle spasms in my left eyebrow and everyone thinks I'm winking at them. My right hand won't close all the way, so I keep dropping things. And despite all of this, I was conned into going back to work at 3 a.m. tomorrow. Ick.

There are times I very much miss working third shift. There was something about it. Of course, I was waiting tables in an all night diner full of drunks, but still was a very interesting time.

I'm just glad I haven't cut my ass with a pair of sheers. :D

You miss it? I don't think I will ever miss working nights. But right now the schedule works best for the kiddos, so it's what I do. Once they're raised, I'm going to find myself a nice little low-key day gig.


I've held at least 20 different jobs in my lifetime. Waitressing is #2 on the list for fun, right after managing a movie theater.

A lot of times people were less uptight when they'd had a few drinks and it was very, very late. And a whole lot of them were inappropriate too.

I still worked that job pregnant with my first. Hubs and I both worked there actually. There I am, eight months pregnant and the only one with the guts to go break up to drunk dudes about to fight. My husband came flying out of the back, one of those big long metal spatulas in hand, about to come unglued. At least it wasn't one of the big chef's knives. :D

It seems I give off some sort of vibe. My drunks always behaved after having a talking to. I think I can be scary or too much like their mother or something. I have no clue, but after corporate decided we didn't need to hire off duty sheriffs for security anymore, I became the enforcer of sorts.

I know that vibe. That vibe is the confident calm. I have pretty good results with de-escalating the keyed up ones too. A few people I work with just seem to fuel the fire, and I swear it's because you can hear the panic in their voices and because they never make eye contact.

(Okay, I'm tired enough that I've forgotten how to spell AND punctuate. My apologies for any and all literary faux pas.) Faux pas? Is that right?

Gah, they did it again! The hair on my body literally stood on end. Getting seriously aggravated, because it's midnight here. I hope they knock this crap off soon. I'm trying to teach myself astrophysics, and this is *not* helping!

I'm just teaching myself some of the basics of the different theories -- more cosmology type stuff, really, I guess.

I also started taking a Yale OpenCourse Intro to Physics class so that I can really start to understand it better. What I learned so far is that not knowing calculus is going to kick my BUTT. So I've gotta learn that, too. :D

Right now, I'm finishing my coffee, cuz I have to leave for work in two minutes. *sigh*

I learned Calc 3 in (read: in order to understand) Physics 101. That was fun. Our professor was very against having Intro to Physics be an introductory level course. It was absurd, but I loved it because I already knew it all on the basic level. It was great to delve more into the math.

Take a deep breath and whip up some kind of pasta. It's easy, relatively fast, and impressive if your cooking skills are even semi-decent. Make some garlic bread/toast to go with it and a salad if you have the ingredients.

I don't mind them sneaking around out of sight to take care of the unwelcome guests, but the moment I see one, it better be on its way to a hiding place or planning on sitting in that corner until I forget about it. Everything else voids the agreement.

EDIT: Oh, and listening to music while I figure out the best way to get this researching done and find out how to keep pets cool.

I just spent an hour and a half in the dentist's chair getting a molar tooth worked on. I went in thinking I was only going to need a filling, which would take about half an hour. But he said I needed a crown so that whole procedure took an hour and a half!

Man. That's why I put off going for so long. I think I need to be knocked out when I go to the dentist.
