Honing literary skills

I have temporarily stopped lurking (it is Xmas after all!)
So I thought to myself, "What exactly am I doing to develop my 'literary' skills".

My thoughts on this include researching, analysing, writing, reviewing and taking reader feedback... which is part of the normal writing process for me.

Any thoughts?

Analyzing????

I always analyze why something sucks, but if I wrote it, how could it possibly suck and yet it does appear to suck, although sucking must be an individual perception, so perhaps my eyes are too close or something like that, perhaps...maybe...I have to go think about this.

All of those are helpful, of course. If you're speaking of specific writing skills sets, exercises to work those writing muscles are a terrific idea. I had a particular weakness re: believable dialog, so i wrote a whole short story that took place in one room. Two people, talking. 80+% dialog. Did that a couple times, and did other things and by the end, my dialog didn't suck so much anymore.

I've also practiced things like omni, multi-PoV, setting/worldbuilding. Sometimes, the first result is even saleable.
