Just joined and really excited to be in good company. I have decided to take the advice of some college professors and really pursue writing (my high school teachers on the other hand...well, they told me I wasn't very good). I enjoy it a lot, but still have some weaknesses that hopefully I can adress by virtue of the advice and experiences of other members here. I'm always looking for ways to get rid of writer's block too...I tend to be a pretty impulsive person, and some days I can sit down and write for hours, but then I'm tapped out of ideas for two weeks. I guess there's something to be said for letting things just happen naturally though.
I currently maintain a blog at http://youdancefunny.wordpress.com/ where I write about things related to dance, from class experiences, show reviews, clips from YouTube, etc. I try to write about it in a humorous manner, as my goal with my writing is to entertain. Ideally, I would love to paint a different picture of dance, such that people who don't necessarily know much about dance can find it approachable. There are some people in the dance world who take things way too seriously!
I've never written a novel but have always dreamt of having a book published so...I've started. Not surprisingly, the stories I want to write are mostly dance related, and always lighthearted entertainment. I like to make people laugh, and have never been good with the overly dramatic (maybe that's why my high school teachers didn't like my writing!). I like to keep things simple, and my high school teachers always commented that it seemed like I wasn't making an effort to build complex ideas. Well I'm not a complex person!
And for something random, I don't live by, but am entertained by horoscopes and my Chinese zodiac is the rat, which says I get my best ideas and am most active late at night, which is totally true!
Looking forward to discussing anything and everything with anyone and everyone.
Cheers!
Steve
