I saw this a few hours ago. I believe TMZ was the first to break the news, and they reported cardiac arrest.
Very sad.
ETA: Here's the TMZ article (http://www.tmz.com/2009/12/20/brittany-murphy-dies-cardiac-arrest/#ixzz0aG0ESYUB), which has been updated.

Oh God, that's horrible. At aged 32? That's so very sad. It's been a crazy year for celeb deaths. It all feels a bit wrong.

I'm sure more information will come to light as it's known, but the last time I saw her, she was so very thin I wondered if she had an eating disorder. I'd have been surprised if she weighed over 95.
Terribly sad.

There are what 150,000 deaths a day? I never understood why we shed light on celebrities deaths but nonetheless, RIP Brittany Murphy. I did see a couple of her movies, was she in anything that came out recently?

More people know who they are. We're going to care more about someone's death when we know who that person is.

It's always sad when a very young person dies, be they famous or not.
We had a gal whose daughter' best friend literally dropped dead at 22 from cardiac arrest. Turns out she had a heart defect that had never been discovered. Very sad.

That would be my guess, too. It reminds me of Karen Carpenter. She was about the same age when she died. KC was just starting to rebound from anorexia when she collapsed and died of cardiac arrest.

Perhaps we care less about the strangers because we don't know those 150,000 people. But we do know celebrities, because they have spent time entertaining us, therefore we care more about their lives (and deaths).
I thought Brittany Murphy was great, it is a shame that she died so young. It seemed inevitable as she lost all her cute curves and turned into a skeleton. It's very sad.
Clueless was a fantastic movie and Brittany was awesome in it. I'll always remember her performance as Tai.

She was much better than Angelina Jolie, who got all the attention for that movie for some reason...

This is one of my favorite Brittany Murphy moments: her singing Carly Simon's Nobody Does It Better in the movie Little Black Book.

Was Murphy due to star in 'Sin City 2'?

She was also the voice of Luann on King of the Hill.
It is sad that she was so young. I find it interesting that her husband didn't want an autopsy performed...

Oh, I forgot about Little Black Book! I loved that movie. (Mostly because I'm a big Carly Simon fan.) But yeah, Brittany was good in that one, too.

Yeah, I saw her death on the news. And apparently her husband didn't want an autopsy done, but it's law, so he couldn't do anything about it. Personally, I think it's a little odd that he didn't want an autopsy done...but that's just me.

Agreed. I can't understand why you wouldn't want it done.
This makes me sad. I really like her work as an actress.

This is so sad. She's one of those young actresses I believed would win an Oscar. I thought she was brilliant in Don't Say A Word opposite Michael Douglas. Such a great talent. As is usual when someone dies, my heart goes out to her family and friends.
Rest easy, Brittany.

Might be because her husband is Jewish. They believe in burial within 24 hours and that post-mortem dissection is disfigurement in God's eyes.
"The Jewish belief in the inviolability of the human body is reflect*ed in its attitude to postmortem examinations. The Talmud (San*hedrin 47a) asserts that the biblical imperative of speedy burial (Deuteronomy 21:22-23) is based upon the prohibition of disgrac*ing a corpse. The scope of this prohibition extends beyond delayed burial. Scripture proscribes the inflicting of any form of disgrace upon a corpse. In general, this includes the disfigurement of the body as a result of postmortem dissection (autopsy)." For the same reason we feel back when a neighbor or co-worker dies -- because we feel we know them.
