Hello, Question: To get critiques of articles with poems and short stories or a screenplay on a one to one level that involves mentoring, what charge might a writer expect to pay?

It depends on who you work with. Some will charge nothing, like around here we do betas and such (also depends on just how much work you're planning on dumping on someone) clear up to several thousands of dollars if you get one of the really big time pros.

My suggestion is do everything you can with free resources before ever going with paid.

I know screenplays are different, but I would not pay anybody to critique or mentor me on a short story, poetry, or article. You can get fully qualified, professional-level feedback here at the appropriate Share Your Work board.

The nature of 'mentor' is not a business relationship in which one party pays the other, IMO. Mentors work for nothing, in the interest of the field and/or the individual, as they themselves were once mentored.

Maryn, also in an in-person critique group which works

Of course, I'd check out the freebies, but for professional assistance or a large volume of work, a production, I'd expect to, at least, barter services. You are right, Maryn, a mentor, is not a service for a fee. Kosh, you are right. It can be expensive. I like the approach that you suggested, Icerose. I need to use my resources wisely. I'll be in better touch. Thanks to all. Happy Holidays.

For screenplays, critique/mentoring services run from several hundred to several thousand dollars, depending on the level of service and the experience/reputation of the mentor. If you just want someone to give you notes on a specific script, you should be able to find a script coverage service that charges under $100.
