Hi, everyone. I know I'm new here still, but I wanted to share some good news with other writers. I went to a Christian Writers Conference in November. There was one agent I really wanted to meet and pitch my work to during a pitch session. I had read a lot about her beforehand. Well, the first night I was there, I went to her first workshop and loved it. She had us write hooks and read them aloud. We wrote probably around six hooks total during the entire workshop and everyone read their work aloud. Anyway, after it was over, I just had to tell this agent how much I enjoyed her workshop. (I'm shy and don't normally do this!) So, I went up to her, shook her hand and told her. She started talking to me and suddenly told me, "I was really drawn to your writing voice, by the way." I turned red (I just know I did - I felt it) and told her, "Thank you." She said, "No, I really was. I noticed you right away. I love your writing voice! You don't happen to write romance, do you?"

I about fell over. I told her that I do and hoped to pitch my book to her the following day. She had me pitch it right then and there ... and we ended up talking for a long, long time (about books and many other things). She told me to send her the entire mss. :)

So, this is good, right? I was on Cloud 9 the rest of that evening. Just hearing an agent ... especially this particular agent I wanted to meet ... say she liked my writing voice made me really happy. So, now I just sit and pray that she likes my book as well.

This is VERY good. Maybe better than you know--it depends on the agent. Most of them in my experience would rather not take informal pitches at conferences. The fact that she urged you to do so is a really good sign.

You don't, by any chance, write historical romance for the Christian market, do you? :sword

May your work find favor!

Thanks, everyone. I'm hoping this is good. Now it all rests on my book. Will she like it, or won't she? I'm praying hard. I really want her as my agent. I felt like we really had a lot in common.

Anyway, Deb ... I don't currently write historical romance, but I would love to write one. I love historical romance! I know it's selling well right now, too. My book I've completed is actually contemporary inspirational romance.

Lady, that's wonderful! It's fantastic to have such a connection with an agent. I hope you get the answer you want!

That's awesome! A very, very good sign. Have you sent the book in already?
The wait is always killer.

I'm a long time romance author and Insp author and am curious which agent? I just left my agent of almost 14 yrs and am with a new one - the agent search was tough even with a lot of experience. Your experience is so super, I think it means you have a wonderful voice and a good shot at getting that agent.

Annie ... Yes, I sent in the full mss already. It made it there the week of Thanksgiving. :) I'm praying she likes it as much as she said she liked my hooks I wrote and read aloud at the conference. LOL I know only time will tell. And yes, the wait IS a killer. I am so scared of getting another rejection. Especially from her ... the one person I would love to work with. What I'm scared of most are the words, "I don't think I can sell this." She told me historical romance is selling well right now, as is Amish. Mine is contemporary inspirational romance. Still, she told me to send it to her and said that "we'd have to look into the different Christian publishers to see if certain parts in my story would go against what they typically deem as suitable for the Christian market."
She said if not, then certain parts in my story could easily be changed around a bit. So, that was good to hear and know. :) In my book, my main character receives "signs" from her friend in heaven. She said some Christian publishers might see the idea of "signs" as dark or evil.

Anyway, here's to hoping for good news in the new year! For all of us! :)
