As much I use it for checking the original text of something, Project Gutenberg is helpful for sorting out which classic archetypes I may be drawing on. There are excellent forums dedicated to books, SF, horror, etc. where people who have spent a lifetime studying a specific genre will come up with answers which touch upon some very obscure novels. A library ticket is also an essential piece of any writers' kit.

I want to see what other suggestions people have for this specific problem.
