Hello all,
I know most of you, technically. I have been reading this site regularly for a while now, but never felt the need to post. Really, with as thorough as these boards are, I've never had to. All of my questions have been answered to such a full extent, it's almost unbelievable.
My information is somewhat limited: I am an English graduate student, and will be transferring to either Cornell or West Virginia University next fall, and I am seriously devoted to writing. I write stories, but I tend to aim for unique styles. After being exposed to Milton and Chaucer, I fell in love with using poetry as a tool to tell a story. That's what it was originally for, and I feel as if stories come out beautifully if told in that manner. My first book, Eight & One, was released just this August. It consists of eight chapters, with eight characters, and they all affect each other in unique ways. Each chapter tells their story, and of the transition they experience. This transition is set off by one of the other characters, usually unknowingly. The main point of the story was to show how all life, though ruthlessly complex, has meaning. All actions spell both Heaven and Hell for others. Right now, I am expanding it to Sixteen & One. Over the summer, I will convert it to a novel, and get my feet wet with that format as well.
My first book was released through LuLu, but it was really more of a way of getting out there. Luckily, I love art and English, so I was able to make my own covers, format my book, edit it, etc. I am now pursuing more serious publishers at the moment.
So, the point of posting, other than to say "Hello there!" is this: I know all literary agents who accept poetry are scams, but also know that publishers will accept poetry. I have found a few lists of poetry-loving publishers, but they are all outdated. The links are either broken, or take you to a dead site.
My question is: are there any other poetry-accepting publishers that you folks know of? And, if so, remember that my story (will consist of 200 poems exactly, and I have about 174 done) is all linked together. Most of my poems cannot be read and fully understood individually.
Some other minor information: you guys won't ever have to worry about me. I come from a forum called Unreal Playground (is focused on the video game engine "Unreal," 2D art, 3D art, photography, gaming news, etc). Despite focusing on video games, it is a highly refined forum, and only consists of very helpful and intelligent people. It is the same reason why I have taken a liking to this forum. They're both the way all forums should be.
Thank you all for any help you may give, and for all of the times you have unknowingly helped me in the past.
Charles
