It hit me today that I haven't explored this narrative medium before. So in conclusion, can someone please recommend some good novels written in second person. Doesn't matter what genre, as long as the writing/story is good.

The only books I written in second person have been the Choose Your Own Adventure-type, as far as I am concerned.

Nocturnes for the King of Naples by Edmund White. It's the only book in second person I've ever read completely through, and I can't recommend it enough.
Bart mentioned probably the most famous one, Bright Lights, Big City. I thought it completely sucked, could not get into it at all.

Thanks for the recommendations. It sounds like the success of a second person novel comes down to the protagonist. Sounds like they need a well integrated character arc that will make the reader "wish" they were the hero or the villain depending on the story. Everyone want's to be a hero in their own way...

How much do I love this idea and can't imagine how it could ever possibly work?
Oh, my tiny brain.
I think it could be get pulled out by being amazingly meta. Why did Mulder Vic had to die? Because someone was expecting a whodunnit and hence it was necessary to him to die to move the plot. At the end, the detective discovers he's actually in a mystery novel and the victim had to die to entertain the reader or something among those lines.
