Every Christmas for the past few years, I’ve purchased a set genre movies that we can watch together as a family over the winter months. One Christmas is was old black and whites and featured Topper, Abbott and Costello, Arsenic and Old Lace, etc. Then I did foreign favorites like Bread and Tulips, Raise the Red Lanterns, …. You get the picture, right?

This year I want to do 80s like Mannequin and Earth Girls Are Easy. Do you have any suggestions on good flicks?

My favorite 80s movies are Better off Dead, Say Anything, Dirty Dancing, The Goonies, Stand By Me, Beetlejuice, Time Bandits, Indiana Jones assorted, Empire Strikes Back, Return of the Jedi, Can't Buy Me Love, Romancing the Stone, Crocodile Dundee, and Just One of the Guys.

Short Circuit was cute (skip the sequel!). I loved Kitty Pryde's suggestions and Mannequin too.

I think themed movie collections are a great idea. There are so many options to choose from, you can keep going for years! (I'm partial to cheesy vintage sci fi, screwball comedies, and musicals myself.)

Great suggestions.

We have an arsenal of sci-fi here (old and new), and comedies (Monty Python, Young Frankenstein)

I think my list would be almost identical to Kitty Pryde's. I'd throw the John Hughes teen-angst collection in there, too.

We do the same thing every year for New Year's Eve. Mr. Grr and I get a bunch of movies with a theme and make a bunch of food for ourselves. It's such a nice way to spend the day/night.
