Found a wonderful article -- TONY's top 50 films of the decade -- on Time Out and thought I'd ask here: your tops of the decade.

To start, mine (at least today) are:

There Will Be Blood
The Dark Knight
Spirited Away
Rain (2001)
The Prestige
Batman Begins
Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford

I cannot debate the abundant Chris Nolan love. The man is a king amongst directors.

I can't believe Dark Knight is not on that list. I mean, shoot, even I like some movies that are not Dark Knight, but I think it was much better than AI.

2000-the present time. Time Out jumped the gun so I figured I would too.

God, I hated the New World.

Some of these are okay, but there are some picks that are just bizarre. I generally like Michael Mann's work, but his Miami Vice does not deserve to be on the list. Same with AI, I'm Not There, American Psycho...

and No "No Country for Old Men"? Who made this list?

Where the hell is The Dark Knight? No Country for Old Men?

How the hell is Zodiac in the top 10 when Fight Club isn't even in the Top 50?

Kiss Kiss Bang Bang (so very underrated)
Children Of Men
Battle Royale
The Matrix or V for Vendetta

I'm amazed Twilight didn't make its way on the list...

Matrix doesn't count since it was premiered late 90's. But yeah, only history will tell and my guess is that TDK will be vindicated by history.

I'm ultra slow these days. Shouldn't be allowed out in public, or on the internet.

TONY is not exactly your neighborhood paper, though. It caters to a specific audience that would never stoop to enjoying blockbusters. If's it's not pretentious, it's not on the list. Anything popular is out, as is anything funny.

40 Year-Old Virgin made the list (though, curiously, Ghost World and Lost in Translation does not), and there are some (to me) interesting choices like Mann's Miami Vice. Given at least one of the critic lists submitted for the poll and how quirky some of the choices on there are -- the one I read included Looney Tunes: Back In Action (seriously) -- I assume there weren't many comedies the critics polled agreed on. I love that I haven't heard of some of the films, as most lists would, I think, have stuff I've already seen.

Edit: Read the list. I want to replace 'Kontroll' with 'Grizzly Man' now. I can't believe I forgot about my favorite documentary! Also, while I liked their top fifty, the list as a whole seemed to skew towards dramas rather than a variety of genres.

Anybody seen Eulogy? Hank Azaria goes home to bury his Dad? IMO, it ranks with the South Park movie & Super Troopers. It's probably not to everybody's taste--a bit dark--but if you thought Very Bad Things was funny you might want to give it a shot.
