I just wanted to see if anyone here has seen, heard of or used Inkpop. It's supposedly Harpercollins way of looking for new Teen Writers. I haven't used it, and currently have my new teen novel, "High School Heroes", under contract with LL Dreamspell Press, so this does me no good (at the moment), but I wanted to share and see what your thoughts of this site were. Take a look and let us all know!

I just got an account on there, but it sort of reminds me of worthyofpublishing.com. I don't really plan on posting any part of my novel on there, especially because I have fabulous beta readers doing an amazing job for me.

I'm assuming Worthy of Publishing is a similar site.

It is, but not as exclusive. You basically post your novel (or snippets of it like Inkpop), and people rate it and give comments. Apparently the website can be used as a platform because the more people you have rate your work, coupled with a high rating, your work can apparently get the attention of editors because worthyofpublishing supposedly has connections with publishers. I don't know of anyone who has succeeded with this website thus far, so I can't testify anything.

It sounds pretty bogus. Like, it's the teenage version of Authonomy, which I hear is pretty bs.

I don't know how BS it is... only because I got this straight from Harpercollins and it appears to be run through their website.

Frankly, it doesn't really entice me right now because the book that's in the top five is still in its rough draft stages. It's not even complete yet, and yet an editorial board is going to be going through and considering it. I mean, I got an account, but it makes me shudder to know that editors are actually going to consider looking at incomplete manuscripts.

hmm, I checked out the site and... it seem's like it could be good in theory. If Harpercollins is really going to read some of the work than that's a plus but for some reason I doubt that. It seem's kind of like a cheap way for them to get works, counting on the "public" to tell them what's good or not.
I do like the site and the general idea but would like to learn more from people who have actually used the site.

I like HarperCollins, but this doesn't surprise me. After all, they published Swordbird, and I think the general public can agree that the author was not ready to be published. They don't accept e-mail submission or unagented manuscripts, and yet this girl e-mailed her manuscript that was unagented.

Wow, I don't know much about the industry yet but that seems crazy.
I suppose if you are unsure whether your book is good or not it would be a good way to get some feedback.
Personally I have to admit I am a little tempted to post a chapter or two on the site just to see how it goes. more out of curiosity.
Wondering if there are any AW's on Inkpop too. I'd like to hear what more people think about the site.

You might want to read the Authonomy (http://www.absolutewrite.com/forums/showthread.php?t=116374) thread. Inkpop seems to be exactly the same but pitched at younger writers. And Authonomy has problems.

Well, I think this ink pop site doesn't seem too bad an idea. I posted the first 3 chapters of my novel on it...that way I don't think it's in danger of copyright/plagurism or anything as it's only 10% of the finished novel. Might take it off later on though. I don't really believe the thing about Harper Collins editors looking at the top picks. Hmm.

To be frank. I'm curious, too. I can't help but to want to know.

Update on InkPop
Ok so I joined. I uploaded a few chapters of my book. Have had a few people read and comment on it. yay for me.
Problem is...
There is a personal inbox type thing on there and holy crap has it been flooded! I have been a member for less than 24hours and have over 50 people pedaling there work and flooded my inbox... hmm rather annoying I have to say!
I on the other hand have read a few of the works, the Top Ranked in the #2 spot and it is good.
I have also read a few pages of the work that people have bugged me to read...
And honestly... It is crap. A lot of it is nowhere near the publishing stage. Hell a lot of it isn't even edited to like a second or third draft stage.
Now I am not saying my work is perfect, by far actually but I have Beta's and such and we are revising and editing to our hearts content.
What bothers me is that people are uploading like crazy and it would seem are not taking the idea of having the possibility of their work being read by HarperCollins seriously. It seems to be just another place to throw your work up and get your friends to comment on it... and blah blah blah.
So if you want a place to read for fun, say work that is not Fanfics than this is your place but I am not sure I would get your hopes up to make it to the top five spot anytime soon. It seems like it would be hard.
I am going to leave my few chapters on for say a month and see if I get anything out of it in the way of constructive criticism but I bet I don't. More of the comments made are simple... "I like this" stuff.
Anyways just my take.
