Arkham Tales just announced that this will be their last issue; I had a sale to them in Sep-Oct 2008, but looks like the story won't see the light of day. Just one of those things.

Apologies to TBurger and all others who had work accepted and awaiting publication. I could just never generate enough advertising revenue to cover expenses for any issue, and couldn't afford to keep paying the difference out of pocket.

A dark, evil place.

Sorry to see it go, Nathan. While I hadn't subbed there--only because I didn't have an appropriate story yet, I enjoyed the read. I'd love to see you give it another try when times are better. Thanks for your effort.

Folks, this is yet again another reason for us as writers to remember how important it is to support the 'zines with our subscriptions and/or donations. While we're at it, let's not forget those folks like Duotrope and Ralan's who help us narrow down our markets. And while you're feeling generous, you might want to remember AW too. All you've got to do is click the paypal box or the voluntary contribution line at the top of the page.

Is everything still set up so that Arkham Tales can return in the future? Has everything been sold off, or is there the glint of hope that it will rise again in a new form?

Arkham Tales up again

Leucrota Press has just taken over Arkham Tales. Nathan Shumate still sits as Head Editor, and the magazine is open for submissions. Their next issue is due out this April. FYI.

AW. A very nice place!
... someone I know, who hasn't been about here much, got a story pub'd with 'em. So I'm glad AT is back in business for her sake, and others here too. They'll probably be swamped with subs in a short time. So if anyone is looking to sub now is probably the time.

Yep - they've reopened, but it looks like stories accepted under the first iteration of AT, but which never saw print, are no longer considered accepted/bought; instead, they are being re-evaluated as new/priority submissions for the new issue of AT, with no guarantee of publication. I think. Link.

That's essentially true. As the publishing entity behind AT has changed, the old contracts wouldn't be in force. The new contracts will also have some minor changes to terms in them. We'll be contacting a trimmed-down list* of previously accepted authors to see if they would like to re-contract.

*I'm a compulsive shopper, and I had assembled WAY too much of an inventory, which forced us to close to submissions. We're trying to avoid that this time around.

I deleted the link to AT issue six because once I activated AVG it was giving me a virus alert. McAfee didn't catch it. But still, my name made the cover of issue six, so thanks again Nathan!

Congratulations indeed. I bought the issue about a week ago but haven't had a chance to read it yet. Looking forward to checking out your story, T.

For those who are interested, issue #7 of Arkham Tales is available -- tons of weird fiction, book reviews, and an author interview (Larry Correia) -- all for just $1.99! (Remember when comic books only cost $1.99? Man, those were the days...)

(And that pesky javascript infection has been taken care of, once and for all.)
