Hi

I need some serious advice. I know this is going to sound stupid, I am very knew to screenwriting as what I am about to tell you will show. I guy named Frank Reyes contacted me by phone stating he say a posting from me on a messageboard.(I don't put my phone number out) He said he had a screenplay that needed revising and he would give me full writing credits with him if I could do it. He also said it was going to be filmed in the Dominican Republic and he would pay for me to stay there during the filming to get experience. He sent me the complete screenplay. ( No non disclosure or other contracts) I revised it , put in a whole lot of work, because basically it stunk, and like a idiot emailed it back to him. Now he is acting kinda weird about everything. He has called my home several times and I did a reverse search on his number, he is who he says he is, he also gave me his mailing address, which is correct. Does anyone have any advice at what I should do at this point. If you do please email me at allenbell.writer@adelphia.net
I appreciate any help offered.

Allen

Ehh...I worked on editing an 80-minute documentary back in January and the producer didn't leave me alone much, either, but he was still cool.

I really don't see where he's done anything wrong. Sounds like your paranoia's given you more problems than he has. Then again, I don't know all the business details of contracts and the like...yet.

What is he "acting weird" about?

When he's called your house, what does he say?

You need to give us some specifics.

But, at first glance, yes, you were a dope for not getting something in writing. Why dontcha go register the script with the WGA and then see what he says...chance is he hasn't done this already.

And don't delete any of your emails to/from him...keep your paper trail.

Excellent advice! Add to it; make notes on everything.

What I don't understand is...

WHY did he contact you if you're "new to screenwriting"? WHY bring on board a writer who has no experience? Hmm, I guess he knew he wouldn't have to pay you anything. Sounds like Mr. Reyes obviously couldn't write a script on his own, so he brings on someone who also has little experience but might be willing to work on spec. Mr. Reyes wasn't impressed by what he read (no disrespect intended to you, Renegade) and was embarrassed by the whole situation...and that's it. Case closed. But I'd say you've learned a very valuable lesson.
