Does anyone have a list of current RWA recognized pubs? I'm not a member anymore, but was reading something on a blog that has me curious.
Thanks.

I don't know that they actually HAVE a list like that anymore.
They've seperated all the different requirements. There are certain requirements to be a "recognized publisher" (or something like that) that allows a publisher to be able to give workshops and take appointments at National.
There are different standards that apply in order for an author to get into PAN. (PAN requirements mean the author has to make X amount of money, and has to prove it. Recognized status means the publisher has to offer at least $1,000 advance to ALL its authors, not just some of them. Something like that.)
So I don't know if they have a "list" anymore.

Really? Well thanks for that info, Susan. I was curious since someone posted on the EPIC list that White Rose was on the recognized list, but not for everything. I guess it's not so cut and dried anymore.

There is no longer such a thing as an RWA "recognized publisher." Too many writers, members and non-members, saw the list as a stamp of approval. Which it wasn't.
A couple of years ago, they changed things. RWA now has two lists for publishers.
(1) Eligible Publishers
(2) Non-Vanity, Non-Subsidy Publishers
In order to be an Eligible Publisher, a publisher has to be a non-vanity, non-subsidy publisher, be in business for at least 3 years with national distribution, and pay at least $1,000 advance for all romance novels or at least $500 for all romance novellas.
In order to be on the Non-Vanity, Non-Subsidy list, the publisher has to not be a vanity or subsidy press. That one's pretty self-explanatory. :D
The big difference between the two, other than the obvious, is that Eligible Publishers are allowed space at the national conference for editor appointments, publisher spotlights, publisher sponsored booksignings, etc. That's it.
The Eligible Publishers list isn't tied to PAN requirements. As long as an RWA member makes $1,000 on a single novel (either via an advance, royalties, or a combination of both) and his/her publisher is on the list of Non-Vanity, Non-Subsidy publishers, then that member can be in PAN.
As an aside, White Rose isn't listed on the Non-Van, Non-Sub list but Wild Rose Press is.
Hope that helps.

Yes it is. Thanks for the info!
I also think the post I was reading had been mixed up (quotes and tails) and they were referring to ACFW's pub list.
Too many lists to keep straight!

ACFW once had a "list" similar to RWA's, but since their stance on e-books has totally opened up, it's easier to get standing from ACFW nowadays. Desert Breeze has just achieved it, so I'm not unhappy. :D
ACFW also has a "fiction finder" on which an author can post his/her books, along with various criteria to guide potential customers to your title (i.e., mystery content, suspense content, violence, language, romance, and several other variables.). If your press isn't listed, your publisher can apply for listing, and from what I hear, it was very easy to be included.
