My daily writing goal is to:

Write four pages of fiction or about 2,000 words. I'll also review my writing from the previous day.

And weekly, to update my J's Journal website blog and Blogger and post to Absolute Write and Twitter.

Conquer the world.

Failing that, write as much as possible on whatever WIP I'm writing at that time. 5k is a good day. 7-8k is great.

I aim for at least ten pages, but often life gets in the way. I sometimes yearn for a desert island, not for too long, possibly six months, just enough time to write the book I know I’m capable of writing.

I blame my failure to produce a bestseller on other people, the internet, phones, dogs, pubs, rain, sun, sex, and stupid publishers who have not given me a big enough advance to buy that writing cottage on the west coast of Ireland.

I try to write 2,000 words a day. I'm just getting back into writing fiction ,and I find if write more than that, I start to rush things. Of course, that is just tangible work. I spend at least a couple of hours a day brainstorming, plotting, researching, etc.

So i guess I'm lazy.

I try not to end the day with fewer words on my WiP than I had the day before, especially during the first draft.

Cheering you all on!
My current goal is at least 2000 words a day, which is about the length of each chapter in my WIP

I try to complete at least 4 novels per day in between taking care of 6 kids, working two full time jobs, keeping a spotless house, and running my campaign for governor of California.

When I'm actively working on a novel, I prefer setting weekly goals. Things come up which disallow me to write every single day, so setting a weekly goal keeps me from feeling like I'm falling behind.

One. Flippin'. Salvageable. Sentence.

There, there, we all have days like that. It'll be cool

For me - it depends - am I in first draft mode? 1500 + words a day.

Editing mode? Could be 'edit forty pages for pace' or 'tidy motivations for character X' or 'Make sure all transitions smooth'

I prefer long term goals when editing - this draft finished by X date.

I don't set specific length goals, just because I found that for me, personally, I ended up subconsciously stretching scenes to make them fill that goal -- which played havoc with my pacing. Basically, I make goals for each day: Finish that chapter, get as far as X scene, work out another two chapters' worth of outline, etc. And I increase my goals if I turn out to be working especially well/quickly that day. (Or cut them down if, say, the flu strikes.)

To type at least two thousand words a day and finish that darn synopsis... It's not working out, but the novel turned out wonderful.

And to practice my editing skills everyday by revising and editing my most recent wips.

I try to average 2000 words per day, but that tends to be a few 1000 word days and then a 5000 word day. I'm improving, though.

My daily writing goal used to be "Write enough to warrant taking tomorrow off." ;)

Now that I'm doing NaNo, I've set myself a goal of 4k a day, which I'm doing in leaps and bounds. I aim to do 100k this month - 80k-ish on NaNo novel, and 20k-ish on a WIP I've been working on for about 5 months, even though I did the bulk of it in 10 days and then was just lazy as hell.

Failing 100k, I just aim to finish both books, which might come down to about 90k total, and then spend whatever time I have left revising things, something which I'm excellent at putting off. :)

To write every day. I know that sounds pathetic, but I'm the type of person that does NOT do well with specific goals. The more goals I set for myself, the more I fail and, usually, the less I write. If I say "Write one paragraph today", I could either end up with one paragraph or one chapter. It really depends.

My writing goals right now are to not write. I am searching presently, reading voraciously, paying attention to phrasing, timing, plot, character development, flow. I am reading writing books and seeing conflicting views sometimes.

I find that my prose is rather flat lately, and I am on a quest to expand my writing to something a tad more interesting and engaging. So I'm back to square one, and will start writing again after I have something more concrete to amaze myself and readers with.

To just write, really. To keep an even keel, perspective-wise. Not to high, not too low. To keep it real and to keep making progress. Those are my everyday writing-related goals.

I'm another no specific word counts person. In general, my goal is to find some time to write daily. Sometimes that happens, sometimes it doesn't. It depends on what other goals I have going on. When I was working on translation essays and studying for a big Japanese test, I was lucky to write a couple of times a week. On the other hand, if my other obligations are such (like lately) that I can manage to prioritize writing on the very top, then the every day thing is much more feasible.

As for what I write, I don't really set specific goals. I might have an idea of how long something will probably take me and how long it will probably last, but as long as something ends up on the paper I'm happy. It might be one paragraph I had to fight for, and it might be ten pages. Just all depends on the day.

My goal is to write enough good words so that when I turn my computer off at the end of the day I can relax and enjoy my free time, guilt free.

My goal is: having fun. If I didn't have fun while writing, I didn't do a proper job.
