Who has read your book?

Who has read your novel? This is an open-ended question. For some of the unpublished this will be friends, family, perhaps a literary agent. What feedback did they give you?

For the published, this could be famous actors, sports stars, world leaders who might have mentioned the story or even given you feedback. In a sense, we see that the famous are also fans. They watch Top Chef and Project Runway, and are fans of people who aren't necessarily in the limelight. Everyone loves bestsellers, but someone famous can also love a relatively obscure book.

I too read willie's BIW. And I know about 30 or so others who read it. (-;

A couple of people here at AW have read a couple of my unpublished manuscripts--Peach, Trish, Cass, Kristie...a couple of others.

Back in the day my friends used to argue over who got the chapter first (I gave it out on a chapter-by-chapter basis). There would be tug of war matches.

Now a days, they're all too busy with life. It's tragic. FML.

tt42 has read everything I've written in the past year.

Libbie also has a copy of Book #1 and has read bits of #2 and #3.

Perks read ch.1 of Book #1.

And apparently I owe kayleamay a particular chapter from Book #2...

I've had a few beta readers and a publisher and a few agents and now another publisher. And another beta reader.

Of the bunch, I prefer the beta readers. They helped me get it to the others.

My novels and short stories? No idea. I've met people at conventions who had copies, but nobody "famous" has come up to me and said they'd read my book. I've gotten some fan mail though, does that count?

The most famous people to read the comics I wrote? Dave Arneson (of D&D fame) and Will Eisner. But, I gave them both copies at Dragon*Con when I met them. Otherwise, just regular people again.

Deadtown isn't coming out until the end of the year, but I got some great blurbs from urban fantasy authors I admire after they'd read the manuscript, including Karen Chance and Ilona Andrews.

I don't count beta readers for a WIP and most of us have them.

For my current finished work, besides an editor I admire and an agent I know, my daughter is the only other one who has read the finished version and she bragged to her friends, family and anyone else who would listen how good a writer I am. She actually wanted to know why most men could not be more like my main character.

"It's fantasy fiction honey..."

It was very hard for me to let her read my work, as I did not want her to think her dad a pervert. I was more nervous with her reading than my editor friend. And while my editor friend loved the work, it's my daughter's remarks that will stick with me and made this all worth while. Now if I could only get a contract...

My brother, who is reading it as he dodges bullets and bombs in baghdead, and my ex-wife has it, but hasn't read it yet, and probably never will.

also, this hot chick at this coffeeshop, but I don't know if she's actually read it

Yup.

I had definite mixed feelings about the Premier liking it, given, well... just given.

No mixed feelings about Kidman reading it though.

And no mixed feelings about Caro and KTC and others reading it. Especially if it makes them (or their loved ones) cry!

I have three half started novels on the backburner and one that I am almost finished. So far I sent 3 chapters to a potential Beta and that's it. I for some reason am really really nervous about sharing it. My husband and family really want to get a taste but am working my way up to it lol. I fear bad reviews.

Scarletpeaches reads everything I write before the ink is dry. Libbie gets my first drafts when they're done. Otherwise...that's it for first drafts.

A few novels have been read by editors, and somebody's reading Between Brothers, because it's still selling fairly well. Was kind of weird to hear that my mom had read it though...
