Why? Just... why?!!!

This show is great as is. Once they put it on SyFy, I don't think it will translate (especially not with the "we won't slavishly remake the original" comment).

It's only 6 epis in, so why does it need an "American" version already?

I see them stripping the characters away for the sake of special effects and blood.

:(

I've never seen the show yet but it's become the norm of US tv studios "borrowing" good ideas from other countries.

There's The Office. - BBC version was better than the US Version...but the last couple seasons the US ones have been HILARIOUS.
American Idol - from the UK again
America's Got Talent - UK again
Shark Tank - (came out this year on NBC I think) from Canada called Dragon's Den.

just off the top of my head...

There's NO WAY a US version will capture the warmth, wit, and humor of the original. Not even if they reshot it scene for scene.

I thought the original is brilliant. Still waiting for a second season. Does anyone know if there will be one?

Yeah, we have Dragon's Den here in the UK as well. I think the idea came from a Japanese show, though.

Has anybody else seen the American pilot episode of Red Dwarf, with a full American cast? Yeah, some stuff needs to not be remade in American versions.

You know if they go ahead with this it's not going to be surly agonizing werewolves and emo ghosts, it's going to be ALL SMEXY VAMPIRE ROMANCE, ALL THE TIME.

I wouldn't be surprised. Seems like a lot of what's on the tube nowadays is borrowed from somewhere else.

It's currently in production. Not sure when it's going to air, though.

Syfy's Americanization of Being Human Is Just Wrong

It's a funny article:

Syfy president Dave Howe explains:

"We've always been keen on vampires and werewolves, and we loved the originality of Being Human, the fact that the fantastical creatures in it are very young, accessible and charming."

They loved the originality of it so much, they decided to remake it...

In short, this is a disaster. The worst case is, we'll end up with just another CW-esque dramedy show about pretty white kids and their magical issues. To me, this is on a par with an Americanized Doctor Who, — it's not needed, and all but impossible to adapt properly.

I'm sure there were two attempts to get it made in the US, both with Robert Lewellyn.

They made a terrible pilot, then they partially recast immediately after and tried to make a "promo reel", and failed a second time. Sexy female Cat=fail. It was basically one massive failfest. But someone with sense should have stepped in to say, hai guys? don't need remake kthxbai!

We won't really have any inkling about the new version's quality until the writer, producer and director are chosen. Until then, I'll wait. But I don't have high hopes.
