I'm not very active on the site, but I have come in contact with some very talented individuals and have gotten some great feedback.

My books have never made it to the top 5 because I don't network....I simply don't have the time.

I see the website get flack all the time here for the networking aspect. And while I do agree to some extent, I got a very exciting e-mail from an agent who read the work. Granted, nothing has been signed or anything and I doubt anything will happen, but it goes to show that agents DO troll authonomy. :) Keep plugging away!

I'l admit I would not have expected a successful agent to be trolling showcase sites -- they're primarily a fishing ground for scammers. So I am both surprised to find myself wrong and pleased for you. Let us hope this does lead to a contract.

ETA -- For those of you who unfamiliar. Authonomy is a showcase site.

It depends on the website design, the author's ability, genre... Lots of stuff. A person doesn't need to spend 24hrs a day online, but ignoring the internet completely is just as bad as constant networking.

I had the same experience on the Authonomy site. My original intent was to get feed back from one of Harper Collins editors, but after 6 months I gave up because the time spent begging for support was way to much. Then after I gave up, I too got an email from a agent who suggested - are you ready? Cooperative publishing. Needless to say, I sent a very unflattering reply to his offer. Haven't heard back from him yet.

Rumors have it that AuthorHouse and PA troll those sites looking for desperate writers. They act like they are writers and after offering encouragement, tell about their experience with...

Interesting!

No, this is a legit agency (looked it up online and cross checked it here actually). They were just looking for something specific they thought one of my books had. Maybe they entered key words somewhere and it popped up! :)

Well, good for you, and congrats. :) It's always nice to hear something good (even about something I don't want to get involved in, lol). One can't stuff all agents into the same pigeonhole any more than writers.
