Here's my idea. Initially the stories will be micro/flash fiction (maximum 500 words.)

Stupid Thieves! You Couldn't Make This Up. It's True!

At two o'clock on Sunday morning Jack was woken up by the sound of squealing car tyres followed by raised voices.
"Let me drive!" one voice said.
"Why?" replied his companion.
"Because."
"Because what?"
"Just because! Now let me friggin' drive!"
Then there was an almighty crash which sounded as though it had come from his own back yard. Now Jack was cross because his sleep had been disturbed. He put his clothes on and walked outside. A nearby shop's front window had been broken. Stolen goods had been strewn all over the street. But that wasn't the thing that made him most cross. The thing that angered him most was the mess in his own back garden! He walked over to the two robbers and banged hard on their window.
"You should have let the other guy drive!" Jack said.
"So what business is it of yours?" said one.
Jack banged harder on the window.
"You should have let the other guy drive!" he said.
By now one thief was almost as angry as Jack. He rammed the window down and shouted, "what the hell has it got to do with you, anyway?"
Jack pulled out his warrant card and pressed it in the man's face.
"You've just smashed into an unmarked police car, my unmarked police car!" he snapped. "And you're both under arrest!"

Exclamation points used outside of dialogue seem to ruin the humor. But as someone pointed out in another thread, humor is subjective.

I find Erma Bombeck, Dave Barry, and Craig Wilson's writings to be funny. Others don't. But also, each of them had/have a different approach to writing. Erma told it like it is, Dave stretches the truth, and Craig--he's not laugh-out-loud funny, but his insight makes me smile.

I didn't find that overly funny. I might find it mildly amusing in a film but per se...not really.

Here's why your telling of this wasn't funny for me. You over tell the story, meaning you give too much direction and you've used too much redundancy. Less is more. Let your readers imagine a bit.

And btw, when someone asks a question the dialogue tag is: he/she asked.

Thanks for your comments. I agree with all of them.

Please respond by writing a couple of paragraphs which are much funnier than the one I posted and please feel free to take into consideration any of the valuable points that you raise, where appropriate.

litarena, if you have work you would like reviewed, please put it in Share Your Work.

And, it's not really appropriate to ask people to write for you (which I'm pretty sure someone covered in another one of your threads).

I'm wondering if they meant it to be an exercise?

If it's an exercise then it needs to go in the exercise forum.

I know. I wondered earlier if it was posted in the wrong section. But that is for the OP to say, I suppose. I could be completely wrong.

Awfully presumptuous of me, I know, but I'll understand from comments and opinions that the writers were unable to write funny paragraphs, since that's what this posting asks for. Do please feel free to write funny paragraphs below.

If you have the ability to write funny paragraphs please demonstrate it.

This is not the place to challenge people to write funny paragraphs...and if they don't, to presume they can't. If you want to see what others have written, go to share your work and read and crit others' work. if you want people to crit your work, go to Share Your Work. You've already been told.

Regardless of what your "posting asks for" no one is obligated to do this and your tone isn't going to encourage anyone to participate.

Locking this.
