Looking for a novella collection. Recommendations?

I did the google, found some, but not a lot. So...

...have any of you people read a collection of thematically related novellas (same author)? Not really into genres to begin with, I'll read anything that works. However, if you insist, I prefer literary most and romance (you know...Fabio and MILF) least.

And, I guess, if you've read a collection of short stories that literally punched you in the face with amazingness then I'd be open to those as well. So many, though...where to begin?

These are both short story collections, but I've got nothing on the novella front for you.

The Things They Carried

A Good Scent from a Strange Mountain

I like short stories, but these are the only two collections I can think of off the top of my head that are really thematically connected.

Gene Wolfe's The Fifth Head of Cerberus and Walter M. Miller Jr's A Canticle for Leibowitz are both SF novels made up of three linked novellas. David Mitchell's Cloud Atlas is made up of six of them.

A non-genre example is Alice Munro's The Beggar Maid, a series of short stories (not sure if novella length) with the same protagonist. Her collection Runaway contains three long stories linked by the same protagonist at various times in her life.

And, Franny & Zooey would fit here too. And they're all the same family members. (-; Franny & Zooey is in two parts...kind of like a novel in two novellas. Still quite small when combined. I always considered these as novella-ish. Good call, August.

John Fowles, The Ebony Tower
Mohsin Hamid's The Reluctant Fundamentalist. (This is close to being a stand alone novella and not a collection.)
