Is there a market for...

I've written smut in the past. I enjoy doing it and according to other people, I'm pretty good.

I'm thinking of trying an original erotica, but the only ones I've read - Black Lace - aren't really my cup of tea. I find them rather short on actual plot and characterisation.

The kind of work I write currently is character-based sci fi, which because I'm an adult writing about adult people, have a spattering of sex. I know this wouldn't be classed as erotica, but I can make them more so (it wouldn't be difficult at all!). I also write novels that are longer than books published by Black Lace and are more complex.

Is there a market for this kind of novel? Does this post make any kind of sense?

Character/relationship development is something I can't not write; redemption-style stories being a particular favourite. I love digging the depths of a character's personality and seeing how they relate to others is part of that.

I do put my characters through the mill, but there is always a happy ending.
