So those of you who know me (and many who don't, but who've seen my posts) know I'm madly in love with Melina Marchetta's 2009 Printz-winning YA novel, Jellicoe Road.

Well, I was fortunate to interview her for our group blog, YA Highway! Sprint on over, read and comment on her awesomeness. While Jellicoe Road takes place in contemporary Australia (though I swear it's laced with intangible magic), her upcoming YA novel, Finnikin of the Rock, is a high fantasy epic. So there's something for everyone. Talk about versatile!

YES you do :)
What I tell everyone: have patience with the first few chapters, because you will be confused. Then the magic hits you.

That's good to hear because I read the first two chapters and it made my head spin, lol. But I will read the whole thing ASAP :)

Finnikin of the Rock is great. I haven't read Jellicoe Road yet. But I will asap because Melina Marchetta is one of the only authors we're forced to read in English class that I actively try and read more of :)

I couldn't get into Finnikin for some reason, even though I usually love fantasy, but I adored Jellicoe and Saving Francesca. I'm really excited about her next one :)

Good interview. I hadn't realised Melina Marchetta wrote Looking for Alibrandi - I haven't read the novel but I did enjoy the film version, for which she wrote the screenplay. (She won an Australian Film Institute award for it.)

I'm just so glad Jellicoe Road won the Printz, because it really underscored her amazingness for American audiences who might not have found Melina otherwise.

Loved your interview! (And totally off subject, but your Avi is beautifully adorable).
