If it makes up for the cringeworthy disaster that was 'Robin of Sherwood', I'll be all right with it.

Which one was that?

I saw a Robin Hood movie with Uma Thurman in it not too long ago--from the early nineties. I had no CLUE there'd been another one so soon after the debacle of Robin Hood--Prince of Thieves.

Sorry, Jo. I'm talking about typecasting more than acting ability. Crowe just doesn't strike me as the...erm...generous type of fellow...

You know--the take from the rich and give to the poor bit?

Okay, in all seriousness, my hope is that they've cast Crowe because they're not going to go the typical Robin-as-altruistic-good-guy route. I can totally see him as a sort of thuggish, amoral dude out for his own gain - somehow blundering into a situation where he's helping poor folk.

Also - Karate Kid with Jackie Chan? Dear Lord indeed.

Yeah, I can see that. I have a feeling the real robin of Locksley wasn't living in penury while he was harassing the Sheriff of Nottingham.

And hopfully Jackie Chan is playing the Ralph Macchio character, 'cause I just can't (and don't want to) see him as Mr. Myagi. :D

I think the next Karate Kid with Jackie Chan belongs on this thread.

Yikes -- I mean yes, it belongs here. Jackie Chan and Will Smith's son Pinko or Pinenut or something. Jaden, I mean.

:)

And the almost "dear lord" -- The Birds remake with George Clooney and Naomi Watts. Now, that one might actually have been good... but they nixed it anyway.

Next, they're remaking Casablanca with Liam Neeson and Megan Fox. Just you wait.

I nominate: Ghostbusters 3, Robocop, and Sex in the City II

Another Ghostbusters?

Really? Ghostbusters 3

The first one was pure genius, arguably the 'freshest' script ever. Amazing movie.

Ghostbusters two was barely watchable due in part for our love of GB 1.

But Ghostbusters 3? Come on, let the dead stay dead. Pun intended.

And while we are pillaging the past, why not resurrect another cash cow. Robocop.

So sad that they just can't seem to come up with anything new. Well, they do, but they just can't stop themselves from defiling the tombs of old great movies.

Sex in the City II. Really.

How much more 'closed' can you make that plotline.

I may be thrown out of the fraternity, but ...

I never understood the big deal about Casablanca. I didn't really care for it. Bogart is a repulsive little troll and the chick was a sappy twit. I couldn't imagine there even being a question as to whether she'd leave or not. I didn't care for the music either.

I'm apparently not a 'romantic'. Then again, I thought the people in Titanic were unlikeable, boring and stupid. I spent the whole first 3/4 of the movie praying the iceberg would hit and they'd both be killed immediately.

Heh. I was dragged to see Titanic on opening night. I have two favorite parts of that movie--the guy falling from the ship and bouncing off the propeller (great sounds effects) and the moment when Kate Winslett pries DiCaprio's cold, dead hand off her and lets the little maggot sink.

yeah...romance isn't my strong point either. But I love Bogie and I just can't help it.

Didn't you hear? They're calling it The Kung Fu Kid which means it totally gets a free pass.

Sex in the City II. Really.

Yeah, this needs to stop. Immediately. Because now it's opening the can of speculation that is the 'Friends' movie. No. Just, no.

Also the next 'Fockers' movie, adding Jessica Alba to the cast.

In my opinion, you have to watch Casablanca with the context of the era in mind

Simply put, there was never really a story 'like' Casablanca and so when it came out, it broke the mold and has been used as a template for many movies ever since.

Granted, i'm not a film expert.

But one thing I love about the older movies is the dialogue and the writing. Sharp enough you can cut yourself listening to it. And the way the actors 'acted' back then brings a certain quality to the movies.

anyways, that's what I get out of films like that. Not to mention that many of them are pretty damn good.
