I'm sorry if this has been asked before, but how does one go about reading the notation that I see so frequently in critiques? For example, in the middle of a critique of a poem, I came across someone referring to S4. If anyone could explain this to me, I would really appreciate it. Thanks in advance!

Yup, S4 means stanza four. If it said L2, that would be line two.
So, if it said: S4-L2...that means the second line of the fourth stanza.
So, if it said: S4-L2...that means the second line of the fourth stanza.
